My sentiments exactly. That was the reason why I went for the NEX5 to replace my PnS. However, even with 16mm f/2.8 prime, the camera is a little too big. If the Fuji is smaller, than can consider replacing it with the Fuji. For my other needs, there's still my Pentax K-x.

Fuji X100 is still bigger than NEX lor. :nono:

Exactly, often I just take my K7 and my pancake 40mm prime lens to do a walk about; so the this retro will just replace my pancake! The pancake isn't cheap at $550 or so...

No it won't. It can still have the retro look except that you can change lenses. An alternative digital rangefinder from leica. They don't even need to adopt the F mount. They can come up with their own mount and only make 5 lenses for it 24mm 35mm 50mm and 85mm and 135mm.

yeah man. Took a second look and looks like they took the retro look too literally down to the same size. But I I don't think I can draw a conclusion until I see it in the flesh. Previously I had the impression the NEX was too big too until I held it in my hands. But with th NEX and Samsung NV100 hitting up the market with the tiny DSLR-quality performance, I think very soon the Panny HG type market will dry up and be repladed by such class of cameras. I won't be surprised that Oly already working on a smaller Pen too.
But you must admit he retro look is very cool and unique. Just like the pentax optio I-10.
A pity its an entry level PnS for the chic market only while I am looking for a high performing camera in a tiny body.

I think its a matter of time before Fuji introduces a smaller version just like how EP1/2 was followed by the EPL1.

You can't expect the K7 to be any smaller as it is still a featured packed high performance premium DSLR but with the kx + DA40, it is small enough to fit into a small pouch.
The F100 would fit this bill too.

I want a fixed lens camera with very simple, straight cut features, no fuss and hidden functions, one that I can use extensively with little or no maintenance, and with a lens that can match my 35mmf2 prime. I believe most of the current camera manufacturers can do it and people like me and the whole lot of us at FM have been writing about this. I made a mistake of doing this at the Oly forum here and almost got shown the door. Little did I know that Fuji actually listened, amazing.

it's better that fuji sticks with this prime lens..
the quality is definitely better then most kit zoom offered by those m4/3, nex and what's not.
furthermore, 35mm is enough.. that is the 'classic lens' on most rangefinder last time
for people who had wanted this to be zoom/interchangeable.. i guess u guys are not the primary target group fuji is aiming at

NV100 is a PNS, maybe your referring to NX100? but I do like the Idea of EX-1 on a retro body.

anyway, I do like what fuji has come out, It's not flashy but elegant... :lovegrin:

I am not sure what market share Fuji will lost making potential customers to wait so many more months before they can release the production model. Fuji does not have the power of "Apple" to get people to wait. I do want to see if I should wait for 100x or just buy the Lumix 5X as a pns. The camera is $600+ from my reading. Yes, the sensor is different. But a few months is a long wait, and in the meantime, I will continue with my K7 and pancake as walkabout camera.

Development takes time unfortunately and for the small players without the deep pockets like C, they have to respect their resource constraints. But that should not stop them from pitching what is in the works so that hardcore fans can look forward to it.
But I do hope they concurrently work on a smaller body too. That will really help me decide to keep the NEX or not. ;p

Where else can you buy such a high end camera body with full features and water-proofing at under $1400? Hold on to it if it works for you bro. The fuji should only serve as your grab-and-go backup.

I think this fuji is more for people who want a lightweight camera with all the quality that an APS-C sensor size can give without needing to shell out and/or wait for a leica X-1. In someways I prefer this camera to the leica x-1. It has a rangefinder optical viewer. This alone should stand it head over heels over EVF cameras as 1) there's no blackout period 2) if you can see the image, you can compose even in available light situations. Of course fuji could screw it up is they don't 1) put a filter thread in the lens 2) If the optical viewfinder isnt bright enough 3) Choose a cheap sensor 4) Have a short battery life. But somehow I get the feeling that they will get it right and that lens should be great - fujinon lenses usually are.
