okie, i got a couple more questions that was PMed to me. good news and bad news....

the bad news:

(a) the 2-sec delay - sorry, CSers. there's no way to change the setting. i've cycled thru the menu, and there's nothing dat allows users to change it. anyway, the RC-1 remote also has this 2-sec delay. which, IMO, is not a bad thing. but i guess some users want instant action. however, remember that u must trigger the remote LOS. ie - as mentioned, u'll be captured in the pic with an outstretched hand. ;)

the good news:

(b) you can CHANGE batteries! at the prompting another buyer, i dismantled the remote. pretty easy! took me less than 10 secs to dismantle the whole thing. all u need is a precision phillips (cross-head) screwdriver - the type u used to tighten spectacle screws. turn ur remote ard and u'll find a tiny screw near the trigger. just unscrew it and the whole remote will separate. be careful tho... dun lose the screw. the remote uses 2 3V watch batteries which are easily obtained from any watch shops. the whole thing, once dismantled, looks like this.

hope this helps? ;)

This is great! I was beginning to worry abt the batteries.

As for the 2sec delay, I guess its not a cause for worry since I'm a slowcoach. I can never take any fast-action or candid shots since I'm so slow. :) More into beautiful landscape shots.

harlo, abang! no problem. actually i was pretty worried when i had to dismantle it becos i thot i'll chip the plastic case. but... phew!

just be careful not to lose the damn small screw tho.... :bsmilie:

Vital screw, dun think I'll lose it... :D

Thnx for the testing BTW, I guess I'd made the right choice. :)

Nope not tested. But if you're free can bring your cam along to test workability with the S1. But first of all, does the Powershot S1 supports IR Wireless remote trigger?

As for WL-DC100, sorry I've got no really cheap lobang, maybe dealer to dealer price, but if you can coordinate a group of buyers say 20pcs I might be able to get a good deal for you all.

not to sure abt the S1. chances are it has its own remote. :dunno:

anyway, i've got one CSer's PM, saying dat his/her remote dun work on the 300D. in case anyone faces the same problem, here's the possible reasons and solutions.

(a) the remote only works on timer/IR mode - pls set it to the right mode. the remote, as far as i know, dun work on 1 shot or Multi-shot mode. refer to pg 45 of the 300D manual to see how to set it to timer/IR mode.

(b) batt could be weak - since sykestang's remotes are straight out of the box, this would hardly be the case. but, u'll never know. anyway, refer to my earlier post on how to change batts.

(c) remote could be faulty - if after testing all the above and still dun work, chances are (very unlikely tho...), the remote is faulty. ask sykestang for a replacement.

hope this helps?

I have purchased an RC-1 but I discovered two shortcomings.

a) the rc-1 works only if the lens is set to Manual Focus. it does not work in auto focus

b) i can only trigger the camera when i point my rc-1 in front of the camera and not behind. this is somewhat inconvenient since i may need to be behind the camera

I have a few questions concerning this remote sykestang is selling:

a) can this remote work when lens is in AF?
b) can this remote trigger my camera from behind?
c) according to an earlier post by nightwolf75 i have interpreted that this remote cannot trigger the shutter instantly - there will always be a two second delay. Is this correct?
d) is there a model number for this remote? if it is an original canon model, there should be one

If answers to a) and b) are "yes", I'd like to purchase one.

Hi Goering,

What camera are you using?

a) You need to set your CF so that autofocus is activated on the shutter release button. If you set autofocus to the AE button, the remote will not trigger autofocus.

b) You still need to stand in front because the IR reciever is situated infront of the camera body. Infra red is line of sight unlike radiowaves.

c)Yes. there is a slight delay. Basically the red light flashes for 2 seconds to warn you that the shutter is going to trigger. I think it is more for taking a picture of yourself with the camera on a tripod.

d) There is no model number on the remote although Sykestang did state that the item is Canon original and not third party. Maybe Sykestang can provide more info.

goering, i assume u're using 300D, since my test results are for 300D.

(a) remote not triggered in auto focus - i'm not sure abt this for other cameras. but in my 300D, i din have to do any changes to my settings of my 300D. refer to my earlier post. even tho i hacked it. i left my Custom functions alone and simulated the operation of a 300D. my camera had no problems taking pics when i pressed the remote. are you using manual lens or AF lens?

(b) IR cannot shoot from behind - as i've mentioned earlier, IR is strictly LOS. in any case, as limhousen mentioned, the IR receiver is located at the front of the camera (300D). if you want to take pics from behind, either use the timed shutter or u pressing the shutter. last but costly resort, get a radio trigger (if there's such an accessory for 300D).

(c) 2-sec delay - yup. no way to disable it. again, like i said (and some users have agreed with me), dats not a bad thing esp if u wish to take grp pics with u in it. kinda funny if the pic shows u with an outstretched hand. again, if u wish to have instant action, u shldn't be buying the remote controller in the first place, i guess.

(d) canon product? - from the packaging, yes. it has the canon label on it. as for serial number, i din notice. but then i wasn't looking for it anyway. perhaps it's burned onto the circuit board. i could be wrong abt this. :dunno: anyway, sykestang told me when i was testing the remote for him that he imported directly from canon.

at the end of the day, think abt how u want to use the remote? for me, i bought for the purpose of grp pics and mebbe the occasion candid shots. i dun take action shots, so the 2-sec delay doesn't bother me.

hope this helps?

Thanks, nightwolf75 and limhousen for your replies. I'm using a 300D with EF lenses. What I meant in my question a) is that I am only able to trigger the camera shutter if my lens is set to MF. If the lens is on AF, the remote cannot trigger it

limhousen said:

Could you please explain a little bit more of this?

According to simtk, the remote can be triggered from behind

simtk said:
just collected the RC yesterday and would like to say it works fine. ....

triggering at angle, from behind and hand above the camera works fine with mine when i tried for Bulb function. did not try to trigger from below camera.

Anyway, I'm fine with a 2 second delay and my question on the model is just out of curiosity. What I am more concerned is the need to switch my lens to MF before the remote can work.

(a) lens on MF or AF - i dun think so. it works on AF. i used AF for my 50mm lens and works just fine. could be one of ur settings on ur cam. have a look at them?

(b) triggering from behind - i dun know wat simtk meant when he triggered from behind. could have bounced off some reflective surface. not sure. :dunno: one thing for sure, the IR receiver is in front. so, it shld work best LOS.

Was chatting to some peeps from Taiwan. Some were guessing that the remote was meant for an older version of film cam from Canon. Autoboy series if I'm correct, series names differs in countries.

Should any remote malfunction, please contact me for a 1-to-1 replacement.

As I only doing this as a mass import/export, the I'll only cover this warranty for a period of 3 mth and while stock last. :)
