It's not very difficult to understand ... along the way, as 'everyone' 'progressed', somewhere along the way, some people forgot what it was like to be human ... in varying, and often, selective degrees.

System going wrong way .
Should increase salaries ,so more locals can survive not hover the salaries waiting for FW .
Our garment received the Highest pay in the world and yet WE dont even earn a quarter of it ?
Not Justify .
No wonder Money Not Enough part1(10 years ago) then still not enough part 2(2008) are reborn .
Are Neo waiting for part3 2018 ?
I think we already left as quiters as some said .
You're absolutely right. Every country has problems. But some acknowledge them, some don't. Singapore happens to fall into the latter category. We pretend problems don't exist, and thus everyone is "happy" since these problems are "non-existent". We sweep it under the rug, and it will come back to haunt us later.
Why does it concern you when I'm leaving? It's not like you can verify it anyway.
We can do by increasing blue collar salaries and so on .
Just that our garment have too much gic in our market ,turn out to be the biggest employer in singapore .
So to cut cost ,this are what they are doing now by letting any lower paid FW in and let the locals dissolve by itself .
Like it or not ,we are telling you again we are not happy with it .
If there are wellfare and taken care for the ages ,we might swallow it down ,but its not .
you missout somethings ,the top higher management have always increase their pockets instead of sharing the profit to their fellows like us .
yeah, but what can we do about it? lets face it, thats the corporate world for you. and btw, it isn't always true (but more often than not, it is)
that's not the way forward. there are things that can be done to affect change. eg, as consumers of goods & services, we can make choices to patronise the company at our liking.
while its not always true, the widening rich-poor divide is proof things are bad enough. & it'll only get worse.
to sustain our economy we need foreign workers on the cheap to fill up vacancies. to ram up sales, we woo tourists dollars instead (F1 for example). with major events in the works papers always report a projected spike in sales with the influx of these visitors. nothing is said about locals heading to the shops. :dunno:
where's the S'porean & PR & all the rest (foreign students, transitional wokers) who live here in the economic equation?
Come to think fo it, yeah, there doesn't seem to be any mention of locals/transitional workers.
OT abit, do you know how friggin many students are hired to work at the F1? almost every student i know is working at the F1. -_-
its rather troubling rite?...
students working for F1? really, thatz enlightening. free or paid work?
Its a cyclical damage if raising wages is the way to solve the problem. When wages get raised 20% to match current + future inflation, the company will increase price of goods. Demand drops as people cant afford the goods, boss retrench workers and cut middle management pay. Boss goes bust when sales hit the pits.
The current situation is, in order for small & medium businesses to cope with rocketing costs, they shave profits (ie boss take pay cut) and maintain wages. Many expenses are trimmed as well and entertainment would be a luxury more than a need. Everyone in the firm cling on and hope the market rebounds. But the outlook does not look too promising anymore.
One cost cutting measure which some firm adopts is to cheat consumers with inferior products/ bad quality raw materials. But these companies wont stay on as this would be their last straw to reap a good short term harvest.
One interest thing is, while the private sector struggles, the other sector blooms with high salaries, so high it is acclaimed to be highest in the world. Wow, Singapore is still No. 1 after all.
Any figure to show? Would be interesting to know more! Maybe should also cut their pay if they are No 1 in the world!
One thing for sure, because of them, we are not as bad as many other countires. Big players are asking us to help to bail them out.
Do you choose to pay a monkey peanut or do you want somebody to manage your place well in the event of crisis.
Which country in the world would you see .. dishing out hard cash to her people.
any country with a pension system for those retired?
which other developed country (similiar or on par with Sg economic status) do you see seniors collecting empty drink cans & cardboards as often as Sg?
* not that i've been to that many developed countries recently...
