They want us to fellow what they THINK ish best.Let me tell u so far We dont see anything benefit us,is advantage to them more then us .we don't want our own children like what the young man n woman facing now.they wouldn't listen we vote them out,we want bodies to serve us,not the other way.we serve ns,this our return?

We cannot be what we are today. Our ancestors are also foreign workers. They come mainly from China and India.

I can say, no grandfathers and grandmothes no Singapore. No tough decisions no foresight no Singapore. No corruption no sacrify no Singapore.

Having them is a win-win situation.

They work 12hrs a day and get paid a miserable sum. None of our young men and women would like to work in that enviroment.

not that i can speak for my grandparents about their lives back then, i know little about. but that time is it under British rule so things are different.

work 12hr shift with a miserable salary is not viable for locals, lol. why should locals accept a miserable salary in a country of many first (such salary would see them ending among the last:embrass:)?

If we remain as we were 30-40 yrs ago, i'd probably be in a hammock now, at the beach in front of my kampong hut... after my daily fishing trip...

Brother yours make sence, thank you.

not me hor .

Then 2009 election (maybe Only)we vote then we know who has the power .

thats y i made it obvious. its like asking me to switch to hiring 100% local when i dun even have a company to begin with.

let me add my 2 cents worth on the issue. i think we are getting too highly educated to want to do the jobs that foreign workers are doing. Our population and land mass is small thats why we are able to maintain that high minimum standard of education. But with that, who wants to be a construction worker or cleaner? Even bus driver also hard to find, doing sales, selling handphones are much better prospects. We simply can't do without them, if one day they all pack up and leave then we are in big trouble. Not that it would happen though but i think there needs to be better awareness and treatment. They can't expect first class treatment or full acceptance but with regards to how to house them, not treating them like a colony of lepers would help. :)

What is worng with a Master of English Literature driving our bus?

He can give us a Shakespearean quote from Macbeth everytime we board the bus to enlighten our days.

And Singapore will be a better place if the street sweeper knows the finer points of qauntum theory and the clearner in food court is a honours graduate in Ming Dynasty history . :bsmilie:

Do you think the next group of leaders.. if it happens, will remove the 1.5m f/workers and create 1.5m jobs for Singaporeans?

I have no problems with foreign workers, if you remove them then we have to train a new generation of local general workers. Unless you want them to be uni grad general workers, these guys are probably going to be uneducated. then our literacy rate will go down. crime rate will go up. and you will have no control over where these workers stay, they're going to stay all over, your next door instead of some dorm.

What i rather not have is foreign talent with no talent. If they're talented i welcome them with open arms.

U are right.

However, I think we need those skilled and unskilled workers. Both contribute to the nation building of Singapore.

Choose what you think is best.

To me I will choose the leaders that serve the ppl well.. not me alone.

Making noise is one thing, offering solution for the benefit of the nation is another.

The choice is yours but just remember, there is never a system of policy that pleases everybody!

offering a good solution does not mean 1 gets to implement it loh. i hope (positive or negative) feedback should not be viewed with disdain.

system of policy are not cooked up to please people, they exist for the greatest good (maybe not?:sweatsm:).

As long as the policy benefits the majority then it should be OK. Also for long term sake, it is better to have short term pain than long term regret.
