For all you folks waiting for the GF1

i saw GF1 on sale at Taobao.com at Rmb6150 with kit lens. This is the same as USD900. China is faster than Singapore!

Of course, imagine just 0.1% of their population buys it is already enough to flood the whole population of Singapore.

GF1 with 20mm pancake lens was on shelves in Yodabashi, Bic when I was there this week. Priced at 89980 which is around SGD1200 with discounts. The pancake lens is the one to get because of the shallow depth of field for portraits together with the 7-14mm for WA..

Is the the "export" set which supports english firmware? doubt so... cos the price is too good...

Singapore got sell or not?
Too eager to get one..

Anyone wanna buy the gf1 kit?
Can tompang buy the pancake lens for me?
Hopefully got those twin lens kit or what.

awesome! then finally i can decide whether i want to buy LX3 or GF1!

I just saw a black GF-1 displayed at the Panasonic showroom while I was at City Link 3 days ago. Was in a rush, so didn't enquire for more. From a quick glance, the flash mechanism looks very complex, certainly not the LX-3 pop-up type.

it shld retail ard $1500 i guess? similar to PEN... which is quite a lot to pay for a camera where lenses are also expensive

i knot this aint a good comparison but seeing that the price is ard $1500, if can u get a 500D (or nikon D5000) with a, say 35mm prime lens.. i know its bigger.. but not a lot bigger.. while u can hv better choices of lens

Different target market.

It's not targetting at first time buyer I guess. It's more for DSLR owners who want something light for travelling or candid shots with family, esp those with younger kids and babies.

I wouldn't want to lug around a DSLR while have to carry stuff like stroller, diaper bags etc.

Even with 20mm lens, the overall size and weight is still lighter than body of 500D and D5000 itself.

Many may argue the performance and quality is still sub-par to actual DSLR of cheaper price, but sometimes it's worthwhile to pay for convenience as well.

Totally agree..

but when i see the price tag of $1500 ... then the limited n expensive lens.. i think either those with deeper pocket or those really cannot live with a camera of SLR size (but want quality as good as one) will be getting such cameras (Pen and GF1)

I am actually thinking if i shld ditch my SLR and go for this or not... and stop those "ermmm shld i bring my camera or not" moments..

Yes, I concur to have the same sentiments of the indecisiveness as well and most of the time, my PNS gets the nod whenever I thought of the hassle bringing DSLR along.

Not to mention 'quality' video which is quite valuable for family man.

Seems m4/3 is built for family man and those who treasure small things in life with adequate quality to boot.

However, if you are really taking photography as a pt/ft hobby, then DSLR should still get a place in your dry cabinet whenever you just want to have the ultimate photo quality and enjoyment of DSLR experience that none other camera segment can bring.

Men still like gadgets and this seems to be our biggest weakness.

So the price tag of $1500 is confirmed? Or had anyone inquired any good information on GF1 from the panny showroom? If not ima head down soon, real excited about this piece of gadget and the whole m4/3 system itself. Hope it dosen't disappoints!

just a guessimation... since PEN is ard that price.. so it shld not be any thing too low (and know panasonic, they aint cheap either)

hey .. not bad.. probably ard slightly more then 1k for the 14-45mm kit... but the 20mm F1.7 i see from sample shot is very nice... wonder how much is that lens alone

tempting... erm..

only drawback i see so far, is that in video mode its in mono.. i mean, doesnt make sense.. they already make it AVCHD lite capable but Mono sound? even the cheaper PnS panny with AVCHD lite as stereo recording

Probably they leaving it as a upgrade to GF2 and right now doesn't want to affect sales of GH1 which already will take a hit once GF1 is available.

But i think it's quite ok for Mono...since for those with Stereo, the built in mic is so close to each other, I wonder how different it will sound compared to mono, unless external mic is supported.

actually i still learning this micro 4/3 system... anyone can help with these question?

1) with a adapter, it can use ALL 4/3 lens ie those from olympus's SLR series?
2) when without adapter.. can i use olympus micro 4/3 lens?
3) any compatibility issue that any micro 4/3 user shld know? one thing so far i know is the IS.. olympus lens dont hv since they already build it in body...

thks

I am not m4/3 user but hoping to be one soon with GF1. I also hope some gurus here can answer your queries as I am interested to know as well.

However, one thing for sure I like about this m4/3 may be something others dun like.

The limited lens option now maybe a blessing in disguise for me at least as I do not need to spend so much on lenses and make myself confused or broke. Just use whatever comes with kit lens first and slowly move along as they develop more.

1. Please see Panasonic's lens compatibility page.
2. Yes can be used without adapter.

I was originally waiting for the GF1 with great anticipation as well. But after the price announcement, with a price tag equal or higher then an entry level DSLR, couple with limited choice of m43 lenses, I can't say I'm as enthusiastic any more.
