For all you folks waiting for the GF1

I was originally waiting for the GF1 with great anticipation as well. But after the price announcement, with a price tag equal or higher then an entry level DSLR, couple with limited choice of m43 lenses, I can't say I'm as enthusiastic any more.

ya.. same here, i think of the price, its like a 500D kit set prce.. but like what others had mentioned, the size of this m4/3 camera is the real selling point...

i am now looking at the lens available for m4/3 to see if its able to hv lenses that i normally use..

i wont be looking at the full 4/3 lens from olympus as i feel it totally defeat the purpose of a m4/3 concept if one would go for a lens that is similar to any other SLR lens (not to mention the weight balance of a small m4/3 body with a heavy lens)

But most of the DSLR-convertors to m4/3 are after it's biggest advantage and luxury, the power of a DSLR packed into a digi-cam size body.

I wouldn't wan those situations whereby i hav to hesitate or consider to bring my cam out for a casual shoot with my frens & families because of the size and weight of a DSLR.

Since the m4/3 system is "new" i feel that we should go develop amongst it and anticipate for new lens, instead of going into the monster family and getting infected by BBB virus. There~ you got a natural budget constraint =)

But would anyone advise on any external flash that is usable by such systems? Really loved the idea of a external flash, because owning a DSLR w/ flash is the worst luggish feeling i had (besides getting good quality pics)

That's exactly my previous point.

Having going into a new system in someway helps us save $$$ too as there is nothing much to buy.

And coming from DSLR, though there are tons of gadgets to buy, to be honest, most of them are not necessary and most of time will be sold at a loss after some time playing with them. I am sure many DSLR users would wholeheartedly agree with me on this.

I believe any 4/3 flash systems could be used on these m4/3. m4/3 also have some flash units available from both Oly and Pana.

guess if u are not those that need a 70-200 f2.8 or a 50mm f.12 , then i dont see much problem trying out these micro 4/3 system

the only thing that i hope it has for the PEN and GF1 is a proper flash... i mean, the reason i bought my SLR is to take good photos in low light (when everything is bright, even the usefulness in a PnS is as good) .. its a pity that u buy a $1200-1300 camera and it cannot handle low light situation well...

Noise vs flat & washout pict from build in flash, the choice is simple to me.

And interestingly, I actually fit my 50/1.2 on my EP1, works like magic, of course I loose the AF & ability to change the apperture except 1.2, but that's fine by me. As I play around more with it, will share some of the pict. Next to go on EP1 is 400/5.6.

And by the way, my 4 cameras are: EOS3, 5D2, EP-1 & F200EXR.

when i meant flash... i meant proper flash.. as in a external unit... like a 480/580 EX .. not build in ones (GF1 already has a build in so not a issue)..

a 1.2 lens is always good (who does not know?) .. but how about the price of a 1.2 lens? and a price of a flash unit is like what, $450-600?? not many ppl can afford a f1.2 prime lens ...

I haven't tried it myself with this setup. But I did try my EX430 with my G9 which I sold recently... it's definitely going to be a bit awkward, since E-P1 and GF1 both are only slightly bigger then G9, I have to hold the flash body with my left hand, and my right hand holding my G9 and press the shutter. Not the most ergonomics setup for sure, but it will work. But one difference of both E-P1 & GF1 vs my G9 experience is with a zoom lens attached, there could potentially be better balance.
