FL-600R - Owner Review and Comments

Yup, ordered Tuesday night.

FL-600R: US$299.00
EP-11: US$18.95
Shipping: US$42.46
+
GST: S$32.47
Disbursement Fee: S$10.00

Yup, I paid the UPS guy. They only accept exact cash or credit card + 3% interested charge.

That is super fast. Mine from amazon took nearly 2 weeks!!

Wah. i should have bought in TW at S$450 and sell in CS for $470-480.
would have made some money to buy some toys for my son.

Anyway, GST is levied on the total value of the goods when it lands in Singapore.
Total value = cost of goods + insurance cost + freight cost

There is a way to siam GST on this purchase of FL600R.

1) buy from any US online store that gives you free shipping anywhere in US
2) Ship is to Vpost USA
3) As value of goods is still US$299, it will be lower than S$400. So, NO GST!
4) then you only need to pay Vpost to ship it to you. you can opt for express shipping.
5) Wait longer than normal as your package will need to go Vpost in US first before they ship it to you.

In fact, you can order 10times. then combine the shipping into one shipment.
AND YOU WILLL STILL NOT PAY GST!

Don't ask me why Vpost so special. You can ask Singpost.
Perhaps this is a way for help Singapore based company.;)

By the way, this was based on my last purchase in 2011. Please check Vpost website for latest details.

hope more people join the MO soon! If not will have to order on my own already.

gongong, thanks for the tips!

This is from the vpost website:

==================================================================================
Insurance Coverage
(Optional service)
= Min S$18.00 or 3% of C+F, whichever is higher

Customs GST
(Applicable if CIF of a package is more than S$400)
= 7% of CIF

Holding Fee
(Applicable after 21 days)
= S$1.50 per item per day.

CIF = Total Cost of Products in a package / order + Insurance + Freight (or Shipping Charge)
Total Cost of Products in a package / order = Product Cost + USA Sales Tax (if applicable) + Domestic Shipping Charge (if applicable)

==================================================================================

To siam GST, CIF of package must be less than $400.

Assuming domestic shipping charge is free and its stated in their website that there is no USA sales tax, total cost of products in a package is USD299.

Further assume that insurance is optional and we shall opt out from, shipping charge of 500g(weight of flash is 255 grams) is $17.95. Calculating on an exchange rate of 1.3, it is USD299 is $388.7. therefore bringing CIF of 406.65.

Do take note that this is not considering the 2.5% charge by the bank s that will be reflected only on posting date and shown on statement

But even with 7% GST and 2.5% bank charge, it seems to be cheaper than direct UPS as i calculated it will be ard 450 and just buying 1. now its back to the drawing board for me. But i do forsee that it might take longer

Are there any further charges to use vpost ?

Not sure which is higher volumetric weight or actual? May inflate the shipping cost of vpost

I am using GF collapsible universal Lightsphere. Never try fitting the non-collapsible, cloud II onto FL600R. But the sales guy at CP counter say it fit as well.
Yup, tried Gary Fong's Lightsphere Universal Cloud just now and it fits.

Anybody know how much this cost on HK or TW?

Just received mine from B&H together with the awesome EP-11 :bsmilie:, delivered by UPS.

Anyway else can get the EP-11 locally? Buying one EP-11 online is stupid.

No. Guess you have to wait till Olympus Singapore has it back in stock.

Did you get the diffuser online or from local stores?

Locally but I think it turns out cheaper ordering it from the states.

Wah this is a revelation for me. Time to buy a new medium format system from KEH.com

i spoke to vpost and found out it only helps if you know the dimensions and weight of the package and then use the shipping calculator in the website.

Stupid Olympus still never adjust local prices.

Stupid Olympus still never adjust local prices.

I think that's rather smart. :) Most people have no idea how much it costs overseas or they simply don't care. Anyway, why should Olympus lower the price about $200? Just to sell ~10% more units? That wouldn't make much sense. It's probably more effective to increase the price $50, doubt they would sell less. :)

You are not giving people in Olympus enough credit.....
Do you really think they do not know internet pricing??!!

I checked Vpost. FL600R at US$299, the costing is rather tight to siam GST.

1) the price of flash at US$299 = around S$388.7 (using 1.3).
2) cannot buy insurance as insurance alone will cost at least S$18
3) put base-charge aside, this means to keep it under S$400, the max charge for freight will need to be around S$11. this means a weight charge of around 1.2kg.
4) must remember that when the online shop ship the flash, it will pack the flash with original box in a bigger box with bubble wrap and packing peanuts. so, i think the package will easily weigh in at 1kg.

so, based on the above, it a very tight situation.

Now, assume weight or the volumetric is ok at S$11. now, is how to siam the base charge so that total cost is below S$400.

if you look at the vpost example on consolidated packages, it shows you that base charge is only calculated once.
So, that means, if you make a purchase of another product, say a camera neoprene case for US$50.
(i will suggest buying something else for your wife/gf/kids, Fisher-Price's sale special in their online shop is damn cheap in US)
it can technically means that....

Neoprene case = US$50 + base charge + weight charge
FL600R = US$299 + weight charge only.

Perhaps the two bros that bought from US can tell us how big is the shipping box that they packed in the FL600r. and will it weigh in at more than 1.2kg.
Also, i think i shown enough on how to siam, cant spoonfeed all the way.
If you still have questions, call Vpost. ask them if you buy two items, which items will kenna base charge?
the item that arrive first?
the item that cost the most?
How/what/which exchange rate to determine the value?
Use the shipping calculator, i think got another loophole to bring down the shipping charges slightly.;)

yup, ive already checked with vpost and they advised me to request the dimensions and weight from the seller which i think is a little ridiculous.. in addition, i believed vpost wont be as fast as private couriers.

exchange rate will always be determined by the credit card associations (visa, amex & mastercard) on posting date (when the funds have been confirmed and transferred over to merchant by bank) which is different from transaction date.

However, i cannot confirm if the GST calculated by UPS or vpost is based on this same exchange rate set by the associations or is it the generic market exchange rate. but i believe that since UPS , vpost, customs can only see USD on the invoice, it would prob be the latter.

They said on their facebook they will consider revising, but until now no action.

It's a standard reply mate. What do you expect? Of course they don't say they won't look into it. They would only consider lowering the price if it doesn't sell. I guess it sells well enough.
