First try at a fashion shoot

This I like. Very Pro. :)

2 Flashes? Right one higher up left one lower?
Thanks! Actually 3, key light coming in from the right, kicker light hanging on the ledge on the left and rim light on the top step directly behind model.

Some more say amateur first try?

No lah haha, I'm just nerd spend many hours online learn abit here and there, like to talk technical hehehe, this shoot truly first time putting these technical knowledge to practice. If pro, bro Rashkae no need point out so many flaws liao :P

Bro Duskman, regardless of those negative remarks given. Your photos are awesome. It's just wonderful pro-looked shots! Thumbs up!

the black dresses seem to have lost their shadow details and appear as a monolithic block...

Here are some observations.... I apologize in advance if they sound a bit harsh, I tend to type out my thoughts very bluntly. ;)

7: Very unflattering shot. The wind blew the dress against her body in the most unflattering ways. Also, note her feet pointing at each other. She just looks stunned/uncomfortable.
8: Same as #7. Also, either show the LV sign or don't show it. Better than chopping it off halfway. :)

The solution to a dress that sticks a bit too much (esp polyester material), is a non synthetic slip or half-slip beneath. it will stop the material from clinging too much and not err...highlight her anatomy in such a way that is really in-your-face . hope that helps :)

Sorry ah... Newbie here, whats a slip? :embrass:

But yeah, originally had a silky type of dress in mind which gives some highlights and shadows, but the model didnt have. And yes our "fashion shoot" depended on the model's wardrobe LOL :bsmilie:

a slip is an under garment . like a camisole dress but specially for wearing beneath dresses to create a non static lining between body and dress.

so that the dress is not so clingy . if wearing skirt and blouses its also possible to wear half slips which are the skirt-part of the full length slip

for me I feel the lens is to wide in most of these shots.

I like picture 5 the most out of all. Yes i do agree that the protective sole layer spoil the picture. if u crop or zoom the feel will be totally different. Anyway good try and keep shooting. these is how we learn from mistake.:)

Apart from those God forsaken shoes , I think its a pretty decent effort.

(height doesnt matter as much in photography unless the model is shorter than and standing next to a mini cooper)

This shot is nice but than if the heel bottom can cover the ton will be nice ..l

I am sorry if my comment is different from the rest.

I do not see any fashion.

To avoid the tourist picture look, avoid landmarks.

Some basic human portraiture knowledge is still needed. How to shoot humans, is an art.

Ask the model to stop smiling too.

But for a first try, no one can fault you.

doesn't feel like a fashion shoot.

not sure if you've seen too much of the organized shoots here calling those "XMM" no-genre-just-DOM-loves-to-shoot photo shoots... or just a misconception on your part.

Fashion photography - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Fashion Photographer - Skillset

and in Fashion Photography, you're bringing out the style and clothes, NOT the model.

also, this set:

they're Black on Grey/Black.

you're pretty much not showcasing what she's wearing because it blends in too much with the background.

also another thing: you have too many elements in your pictures. and as mentioned, you're supposed to be highlighting the style and clothes, not the model and the landscape/architecture.

Agreed. Just because they dress in "nicer" dresses does not make it a "fashion" shoot.

My main agenda for this shoot is to play around with outdoor strobes, didn't know how i should classify it, probably portraiture would be better...

"A Day Out With My XMM" would be better :bsmilie:

Lol i'm glad i don't shoot portraiture. Confirm kena worse than TS. Probably also the reason i wouldn't start doing portraiture. I think landscape shooters for the lack of human-oriented thinking, are much nicer. Irony how a genre which is so human-oriented can lack a human touch. Not sure if TS deserves to be gunned down as i don't quite see any arrogance as would have justified gunning down some previous arrogant and self-deluded individuals.
