Have to wait a few years later, should be 2010. Mobile column normally happens once every 5 years. :bigeyes: The last one was 2005. I did the 2000 one during NSF days and its normally organised by 3 Div.

Might be faster than 2010... The year with the official intro of the new tank would be the year with Mobile Column for NDP liao...

that's one of the characteristics that we're not. everything that is shown on NDP is there for a reason, same goes to those that aren't shown. If it weren't second hand german army tanks, we may well choose not to annouce this purchase even.

One Asean country bought MIG fighters. Powerful fighter that were touted to be equal to the F16 but the last i heard, several of them are not air worthy any more due to the lack of spare parts. They even cannibalize a couple of them for spares, so that they could fly them at their national day parade.

Yah, remember last time when Iran was still under the Shah and still ar kah liao with US, they bought F-14s (the only other country to operate the F-14), now I think maybe all rusty oredi.

If you have read MM Lee's memoirs, they have a mobile column when the bought the AMX Tank to show off/warn our neighbours...

We always have a history of showing off what we announce when we get it... The moment the new F-15SG comes... Same thing also... NDP fly past would show them to haolian also too... :bsmilie:

Look at those Soviet one, I think their one contingent more than all our guard-of-honour, some more high kick stylo. Their missiles and tanks also quite impressive, the whole thing designed to show off their power one.

I think besides showing off to our friendly neighbours, we also want to show off to our own people, otherwise they think we just little red dot, cannot fight one. Must give some confidence to our citizens also.

Not much is known what happened to the Tomcats after the Shah was toppled but it may be possible that the hardliners had possibly reversed engineered the missiles and radar technology.

That's why I mentioned in an earlier post that they don't sell you their goodies one. Sell you those not so good one, especially when it comes to electronic counter-measure (ECM) stuff. If you compare carefully old and new planes, you can see different antenna blades on the wings/tails/fuselage. They constantly upgrade while the export sets, depend on kum cheng, even Japan good friend of US, I doubt they have the latest and greatest stuff.

Sometimes depends if you are willing to share the R&D $$... From what I know, they are willing to sell to selected friends but must pay through the nose for those exclusive technology... Even Israel decide to boost their own R&D sector than pay the amount they are asking for...
