interesting Minister Teo says the Leopard replaces the SM-1. mmm… mmm… mmm…

Don't worry too much lah. Long before they deploy their heavy equipment southwards, our recce people oredi know and send the reaction force up to block them.
SCUD old oredi leh, anyway SG won't buy Soviet or China made stuff one.
Patriot fits more with our defensive style.

Wah lau... That is what the Israelis say before the Yom Kippur war... At least when they screw up, they still have a desert as buffer... Singapore screw up...

:bsmilie: Singapore always buying "old" stuff then upgrade it... We may start buying from China especially if US refuse to sell us the equipment...

Always a good idea to have different suppliers if not you could be held ransom by the main supplier.

I think the SAF is not adverse to buying from any party that has the right equipment and that we have confidence in exploiting (i.e. upgrades and enhancements).

Well... We officially only have the SM-1...

How to replace something "we do not have"? :bsmilie:

I agree and had predicted picking F-15 on that basis. We always look for a platform that can be exploited and people will not sell you everything you need. Just look at the brouhaha over the AAMs. At least in electronics we can do a lot of things on our own.

Similar engines with the F-16s was also a factor.

F100-PW-229 engines :)

From what I understand... The current MLRS are pretty accurate and the fire power is huge.

1 MLRS could out-gun and out-range 5 howitzers... Plus it is very mobile, makes it a very hard target to find...

Do we have the capability to take them out 1st or at least have the deterrent to warn our enemy not to fire into residential or non-military targets?
Actually we have this - Our last Ace in the Hole if we all ever come to blows with *points finger upwards* And this was taken out of a ultra top secret testing range here. This was why MINDEF banned all camera phones.

Last time they said Centurion secret. Never seen it in NDP mobile display one leh.

well it is in the public domain since some books are published. but that "two alphabets" still "officially" classified I think :)

yup, why you think our Centurion can be used for so long?
shh...not so loud...I thought the South Africans helped us there as well...what with their experience upgrading their centurions to oliphant

Open secret... To ya ya papaya to our neighbours and yet don't want to instigate them to buy MBTs by refusing to acknowledge it's existence... ;)

I always thought the AVLB will be the most impressive thing on NDP.

I remember the first time I saw one. I was posted to 38SCE for AE conversion in 81, the 3-tonner had to scramble to the road side to allow this rumbling thing to pass. our blue beret already turned to red with the dust, and when we peeped out of the back, we saw this HUGE thing towering over head, all your bones vibrating along when the AVLB driver steps on his accelerator.

For the young chappies, Sungei Gedong in the old days, is mud track all the way from LCK road, no surfacing. Going back camp is like having to topo through Area D :)

Warfare is not just about having the latest and greatest weapons. Intelligence, tactics and logistics play a very critical role as well.

In the Desert Storm, the american tanks could only travel as far as their loggies could follow, even tho their tanks had a much further combat range.

When you buy weapons, you also need to factor in the maintenance needs and compatibility of that system with what you currently have in your arsenal.

One Asean country bought MIG fighters. Powerful fighter that were touted to be equal to the F16 but the last i heard, several of them are not air worthy any more due to the lack of spare parts. They even cannibalize a couple of them for spares, so that they could fly them at their national day parade.
