Are the negative scanners able to scan negatives that has been "CUT" ?

Got a large collections of cut and mounted color negatives used for Slide Projection during the early year. Are these "cut" negatives able to be scanned? Becos i only hear people discussing about scanning in rolls of 6 pcs 35mm film strips.

Thxs.

To quote from the Epson Singapore website entry for the V500, it has "High scanning capacity of 12 frames of 35mm filmstrips, 4 frames of 35mm mounted slides and 1 frame of medium format". May vary for other models.

I own a V500 and it came with a film holder for mounted slides. Never tested it as I don't have any mounted slides.

i do not see why it is not possible. the scanner will still recognize that a slide of negative is present.

Should not be a problem the trays that come with scanners would have one for mounted negatives. Even if they do not have one, the holders would be able to hold the cut negatives in place.

12 frames (6x2 strips) will take about 3-5 minutes at 1200-1600 DPI. (Epson V500)
16 Bit grayscale, no corrections.

does your scanner try to act smart and chop off the negatives? :dunno:

On my canoscan software, I can select the frames to scan on the negatives. Not sure abt the Epson software though....

I'm still looking for the DURST enlargers loh...that can take till 6X7 at least......but very very difficult to find though ...and even on evilbay.......after shipping and all that.......bank all dry up liao.....

I'd have though in Germany, there will be a huge following of Durst.....but i guess they are still very much into their Kaiser brand.......which incidentally, is also expensive.....
:(

Oh I have a durst 4x5 enlarger... hehe... ;p

But don't think I'll sell it off just yet...

You can scan "cut" or mounted negatives with the V500. I have the Epson 4490 Photo, can do that as well. Just place the mounted negatives into the film holder and select "Color Negatives" will do.

You can choose the auto crop size for the "thumbnail" mode or manually marquee the frames to scan.

The problem is that the scanner is picking up only the "properly exposed" areas and automatically crops away the black (under exposed) areas for example the top and bottom portion gets cropped away.

I'm attaching an image for reference (directly off from the printer no processing and cropping from my end)

What i'm trying to say is that it crops automatically and the manual marquee would be redundant.:dunno:

Cropping automatically is done in thumbnail mode.

See, my images got cropped too.

You can uncheck the "Thumbnail" checkbox.

Then manually marquee the frames.

Sorry to "interrupt" this thread. :embrass::embrass:

I'm interest in the "Budget" Epson V30 or V300 scanner.

Just asking, how's the image quality from scanning through flatbed scanner vs. the laser scanner at labs?
Will the quality be far apart?

I heard that colour of photos scanned from flatbed scanners are rather flat.
Is that true? :dunno:

Thanks.

I'm using the Epson v700 scanner.

My question is, when i choose the Digital ICE option, each pic normally takes about 10 mins to scan. Is that normal? I'm scanning at like 2400dpi

Will using a faster computer help? Or is this entirely scanner dependent.

it's abnormal. i've tried that settings you mentioned on a mac and it took 5mins max
