Feedback on new Personal Classified sections

Categorizing by brand is good.

Just one comment, we don't know if the item has been sold. Maybe, we could allow the creator of the thread to close it. :)

:sweat::sweat::sweat:

I understand the reason behind not allowing to do reply, but would like to suggest to allow the seller to at least close the thread, here are my reasons behind this suggestion:

1. After I have sold my Nikon D40, still continue to receive PM from some interested buyers, That is non productive and waste of time.
2. It allow interested buyer to skip items that has been sold: for example, when I am interested to by a Nikon D300 and there are 3 sellers, without knowing which one is available, if I am kiasu, I PM 3 of them, then it may end up all 3 agreed to sell to me. If I am trying to be good by sending to only one, he may take 2 days to reply to me that it is already been sold, then when I PM the second one, I could be told that I am late.

Just my suggestion.

I kinda like the new system - don't have to keep reading repeated threads each time someone bumps it up. Read once and its over :) Makes things easier to sort and look through too. I think bumping up is quite unncessary really as it results in reading and re-reading the same thing over and over again.

The thread subject is Bold. Once I read the thread, the subject will be un-bold.
So when I re-visit the forum, I know I had visited the thread.
You might read the thread today as you sign in today & again tomorrow but potential
buyer/seller might only sign in to the forum tomorrow or the day after tomorrow..
by the time, the thread will be pushed far behind nos of pages away..
Others might resulted to Re-Post their thread again to get into the front pages..
Unless there is not much new posting, then the thread will stay within the front few pages..
Above are just my thinking..

Bring the replies back as least one look I will know whats is being sold and what is the latest update instead of having to PM every single thing when the TS can just answer all ppl in a single post

Overall system is good indeed. You categorised to each brands. Just an opinion, why not only let the seller to access on their particular threads for them to able to update the latest price and also info. of nos. of bidder who pmed him/her.

So at least we the buyer knows the actual status of the item. For right, honestly i don't know which are the particular items have been sold or with a most bidder.

most do agree on categorising by brands is good.

cannot reply on thread is have it good (update info) and bad (too many ups).

But as a classify advert, I do think the seller should be able to modify or add on new info, e.g. reduce price, condition, photos etc, the most important probably is to indicate sold or not. No people would like to be hassled by an item which has been sold, or wasting buyer time to enquire.

Update Update.

Due to popular demand (and because we just found a way to do it much more easily than anticipated), we have made the following changes to the Personal Classifieds sections.

1) Threadstarters can now reply to their own threads to update the thread.
2) The list of classified threads are now sorted according to the thread created time (and not the last post time) thus posting a reply will not bump up the thread, negating the effect of posting an UPz post.

Enjoy!

Edit and Reminder (because we already noticed a couple of UPz posts) : Posting a reply WILL NOT bump your thread up in the section listing.

Update Update Update

3rd Party Lens brands (Sigma, Tamron, Tokina) are now listed under the Lens Brand category under the Canon, Nikon, Pentax, Olympus and Sony/KM equipment sections.

Thus members can post their 3rd Party lens brands according to the mount.

This will be the final tweak to the Personal Classifieds to allow things to settle down (apart from errors or omissions in which case, please report those to us for fixing.)

Enjoy! Enjoy!

Please allow me to specify Vivitar lens for NikonMount... it's omitted right now. Thanks!

Really appreciate that you value user's feedback and fast action. Thanks.

This is quite amusing.. Hope they don't think that the upz is not working and double or triple upz them. :D

Thanks for helping us find a solution to this problem.

Is it me or wat? The forum seem to be faster at peak period.. 8-10pm

Dear All,

After reading 5 pages of feedback. I decided to give my thoughts.

The current change to the Buy and Sell section comes about because we want to serve our members better. There have been constant feeback over the years about sorting out threads in BnS by Want To Buy (WTB) or Want To Sell (WTS), by Brand (which we are doing), by Equipment Type (which is the old system). By saying so, we will try to cater to everyone's needs but we cannot please everyone because each of us are entitled to individual views and opinions. I doubt we can have system is totally foolproof, but if we can have a system that the masses feel comfortable about, we will implement it.

Changes takes time to stabilize and human beings are resistive to change at times. The Admin and Mod teams have been brainstorming and running trials for the current BnS structure now. We did thought about sort out by Brand (Main Section) -> Equipment Type (Sub Section) but it do seems too messy at first, hence we put that idea on hold and go for Brand sorting first. If needs arise in the future, we might sort out by Equipment Type too.

In some of the feedbacks, some members will like to "upz" their thread to move it to the first few pages. After observing the system for the last 2 days, by sorting the BnS thread by Brands, I think we can do away with the "upz" because the BnS threads posted will not be pushed too far back which is more managable I believe. Like what Darren had mentioned, this new implementation is still under observation, we will make necessary changes when needs arise.

Do give us your valuable feedback and patience, give this new system some time. Hope that everyone will be happy with the changes. We change not for change sake, we change because we want CS to be better for everyone. Cheerz.

Good that some radicals changes are being done to the forum and it gets even better when the users feedback is quickly taken into consideration for enhancing the changes.

BTW, I agree it is great idea to list threads by 'created time', instead of the usual 'last post time'. But again, wouldnt it be better option to allow the user to set this sort order according to his preference.
In my opinion the user will benifit having the option to view post either created date order or by last post date order. This would help users to see recent updates on old threads that got buried buried deep inside the forum. Just my opinion.

Upz to the moderatorz. :)

Try using the search or subscription method.

Sorting by last post time isn't helpful for most cases because it doesn't make much difference since most updates are non-informative (upzz and chats).

Mabbe wait for the RSS implementation for those who likes faster access to new posts.

This make the whole thing so much more fantastic. I think the job has been done very well, considering the difficulty to cater to so many people. Cheers!

canon/nikon/sony users too much , so seperate by brand not help too much for reduce the burden for server, can seperate B$S to such way: 1. AF lens, 2. MF lens, 3. film body(SLR+RF+medium format,,,), 4 DSLR, 5, DC, 6, underwater and other special equipment, 7, flash and filter, 8, bag and tripod, ball head, 9, books and software, CD/DVD...:)better than by brand...dont forget, only canon and nikon lens alone can occupy more than half resources...:thumbsup::thumbsup:

An OT feedback,

I was wondering if greater disparity should be given to web subscribers - a Senior non-paying Member actually gets more than a paying Member who happens to have a bronze plan.

If normal members get 200 and 400 (up from 100 and 200), perhaps paying members should get a little more. I can't seem to find the original webspace plans page, but for me, I used to only have 300 as the top tier member, and right now its 500 (less than doubled :P).

:)

Updates!

Summary
1) Increased PM allocations
2) Feedback on Sigma/Tamron/Tokina lenses being put under respective brands as an option.

---------------

1) We have heard your cries regarding the limited PM space allocated per member, and given that we have disabled replies in Personal Classifieds, we have doubled all current PM allocations. Please check your User Control Panel to see your new, up-sized PM allocation, which are according to your status as follows :-

New Member - 25 PMs
Member - 200 PMs
Senior Member - 400 PMs
Webspace/Gallery Subscribers - 300/400/500 PMs depending on subscription level
Shoot Organisers / Advertisers - 500 PMs

2) To make it easier to locate Sigma/Tamron/Tokina lenses (other 3rd party brands to be considered when volume grows), we are contemplating adding in the 3rd party brands under the Lens Brand selection (which currently defaults to the major camera brands).

Thus, assuming we are in the Canon Equipment section and we are selling a 3rd party lens, the form selection will have the following options :-

Canon
Sigma (CanonMount)
Tamron (CanonMount)
Tokina (CanonMount)

and the completed thread title will have the following description format (assuming selecting the Sigma option).

WTSell: Lens - Sigma (CanonMount) xxx yyy zzz

If the above is agreeable to members, we will make the change.

Finally, the whole idea of "(CanonMount)" is good - but perhaps a space should be put in between the two words for easier reading.

well done, very reasonable indeed, thank you so much for putting so much effort and time.:thumbsup::thumbsup:

Amazing work done in separating everything.

Can I put in a small suggestion -

It would be nice if we would have separate buy and separate sell section. Many a time I have gone the search results only to find a lot of them to be buy threads. :(

But again I must say, this separation and the negation of ups is great work and makes it so much easier to go through the buy and sell :)
