why not NOW? Sony has already bought KonicaMinolta long ago.
Officially, KM is now Sony...
What has it got to do with the Sony dSLR? :dunno:

not strictly accurate ;p KM only transferred a portion of its camera assets to sony, and withdrew from the business. just a quibble lah.

no particular reason... could have merged any time since the sony/km announcement, as you already pointed out. no "auspicious hour" for this kind of thing one mah. i'm just suggesting a possible time, since that's when some users will finally have in their hands a sony camera with a minolta lens mount... want earlier or later i also don't have any issues.

Suggestion:
Keep Sony for digicams in general and start a Sony/Minolta SLR/dSLR forum.
Reason:
1) Equipment and techniques for digicams are very different from SLR/dSLRs.
2) Since new Sony dSLRs will be using the old Minolta A-mount and accessories, they will have more in common with Minolta than Sony digicams and film users who continue to use Minolta/KM will still have a relevant forum
3) Members will not need to search for threads relevant to their equipment every time.
4) Avoid misunderstanding and wrong responses in discussions
Thank you.

But if you do this, then other forums will also request that their dSLR and compacts be separated, as equal treatment, lol.

I agree with AncientMariner. THe Sony DSLR is base on the Minolta A-mount and has more in common with Minolta SLR and DSLR. Other DSLR such as samsung or kodak use other parties lens but SOny totally using Minolta tech for their new system. I think and exception should be allowed here.

Would it be confusing for visitors to realize that their new SONY dSLR camera, and all their SONY lens (including Zeiss), using the SONY Alpha mount, be categorized under the Minolta forum? It's not accurate.

If you look here at Minolta's website, it clearly lists all the Minolta cameras, and very obviously, the Sony A100 dSLR is not a Minolta camera, and thus again, listing it under Minolta is inaccurate.

Aiya, then create a SONY-Minolta DSLR forum, then another Sony forum, then mods just move those DSLR stuff to the DSLR forum lor... simpler?

you are probably asking the same questions that konica users asked when minolta took over..or was it the other way around :bsmilie:

just name the forum SONY-KONICA-MINOLTA can already. :p

Has the time come to merge the thread and just name the forum SONY-KONICA-MINOLTA instead of having a sub-forum?
