is the F40 a successor of the F31fd or can we expect to see a F32Fd soon?

wow, the "anti-shake" can freeze a subject!

ok, on serious note there are basically 2 main types of stabiliser
1. boost ISO - Fuji way of doing, basically just get you obtain higher shutter speed by using high ISO, hoping that you reduce/avoid handshake and also blur from moving subject
2. optical/sensor stabiliser - canon 850IS is using 1 which basically just reduce/avoid handshake, subject movement will still be blurred but since ISO ain't increased, you will get cleaner images

as for best stabiliser, none... those stabiliser response different from different direction/degree... etc of handshake. but as a general pana/canon/nikon stabiliser are good

so from ur reply, can i say canon 850IS is a better choice for shaky hands den fuji F31fd? ;)

you can say so, but not by much... the setback is you can't "freeze" the subject movement with canon IS, but you can (possible, but not everytime) with higher ISO from fuji.

Maybe you can try out at the shop and see which best suits you. Just curious how shaky is your shaky hands are? Mine are shaky too.My brother can shoot at slower shutter speed, but mine cannot make it passed 1/30.

If the lens speed is fast enough, there really isn't much reason for the IS. But I must agree that the IS is good to have.

it's in Manual and A/S modes only.

Correction, auto(400) till (1600) are only available in Manual mode. A/S are all individually set. Sorry for the mis information.

hmm.. cant exactly measure hw shaky my hands are...currently, i using a old Sony DSC-W30 without stabiliser..seems quite slow in focusing so i got to hold the camera still for quite awhile  and very sensitive to hand movements(the hands vibration icon comes up v easily w any slight movement) :sweatsm: thus my pictures r always blur... sight, having such a camera is as good as no camera

Are you always shooting indoors or dimly lit places or at night? In bright day it should be fine right?

I do shoot indoor or dimly lit places.....at night seems pretty impossible without a tripod. I tried shooting moving objects like models at a fashion show with good lighting... but my cam has no shutter speed adjustment nor stabiliser function .. so I m pretty lost at getting a good pic from a moving object.:dunno: if i m shooting a brightly lit landscape or posing still potrait, the pic is fine

See how this clubsnapper used his F20(the F31fd older and slightly less features brother):

Shot in 1/80 and ISO1600 no flash. 1/80 should be good for most shaky hands i guess. Noticed the models on stage are all dancing away and the cam manged to freeze them. At 1/80, camera can be handheld.

If you dont want to spend bigger dollars, F20 is a really good and cheap low light capable sibling of F31fd. MSColor selling for $299 without xD card. an 1G xD card is about $50.

hope no one throws tomatoes at wat i m abt to say next..went to fujifilm webpage n did a performance comparsion btw F20,F30 and F31.. here are the differences i found despite the vast price difference.

Differences :
1. F31 has internal memory of 26mb while F20 n F30's situation is unknown.
2. F20's max ISO is 2000 while F30 and F31's ISO reaches 3200
3. F20's 2.5 LCD resolution is only 153K while F30 and F31's resolution is 230K
4. F30 and F31 has face detection
5. F20 lighter den both his "brothers" by 5g :dunno:

pls feel free add any coments and criticism should i said anything wrong but my intention is just to know the reason and difference in what i m paying for in each of them. Thanks :what:

Well they have to be different, they are of different model at different price point. They were launched at different timing too.

Besides knowing their differences, what are your concerns? The decision making is quite simple. If you have the budget, get F31fd. If budget is tight get F20. IMO, F40fd is an odd ball. I don't see how this cam fit into the line up. But for sure F20 will be phased out, so in the end only F31fd and F40fd for you to choose.

hi,

I am new to this and read lots of good reviews abt F31D, however, cos I do not hav steady hands, will F31D without Image stabilization produce decent pictures during day n night?

Thanks
