worth the investment? i'm thinking of getting the original wide angle for fz20 but realised that there's no lens thread....like freaking useless if u pay 4-500 buckz for something that u cannot even attach additional filters....anyone have lobangs for the original wide?

Hi pple. I'm going to get a FZ20 soon and am considering an external flash to go with the camera. I've actually shortlisted the Emoblitz and Sunblitz. I think the Sunblitz looks better but have no idea where to find it. Anybody knows where to buy the Sunblitz and at what kind of price? I've tried emailing them but no replies yet. Don't think they welcome walk-in at their office huh?
Can check out their website here.

Thanks.

Is the Guide Number 28m? If it is, $200 is a bit overpriced for such a low powered flash. Might as well get second hand Nikon SB24, SB25, SB26, SB28, SB80, etc which offer GN of 50m or above.

the description doesn't mention anything about auto modes though.

I'm looking at SB80DX on B&S... currently the pricing is around $300... I guess if the build IS good, I'm willing (quite reluctantly, though) to pay the price.

As I've said, I'm using the Emoblitz 328DTZ. So far, I've only been able to use it to bounce for macro. Quite good actually, but maybe that day is sunny too so easy to see on the LCD. But again, like I said, the swivelling & tilting like quite plasticky & low-grade. Don't really like it.

As for other brands, I think after the Emoblitz, I'm quite skeptical to the build of 3rd party products. At least I'm quite confident of Nikon & Canon... for now. :)

Hi again pple. I've gotten a reply from Mr Scott Lin from Xtri Technology regarding the SunBlitz flash.

Subject: Query on SunBiltz AutoFocus (Model No. AF4500)

Hi Scott,

I am interested in the above mentioned flashgun as described in the Xtri Technology website but do not know where to buy it and its recommended retail price. By the way, I am from Singapore. Hope you can provide me with the details. Thank you.

Anyone want to go down and get it together? Maybe a mass order if there's enough people? :bsmilie:

got a reply from CP that the original panasonic flash is going for $160
the wide's going for $390....tempting for the flash but the wide is kinda still crazily priced

Can get the specification first for consideration?
Is there auto mode? and what is the f stop available in auto mode?

Maybe will call and ask them first.

Saw the above flash at P&I Asia 2003. Retailing at $198.

Some specs/features of the flash:
- Guide no max 45m @ ISO100
- Auto/Manual zoom head 24-28-35-50-85mm discrete steps
- Tilt: 0-90deg (Bounce); 150deg right, 180deg left
- Modes: TTL; Manual (1/1 1/2... up to 1/64 power output); Multi (for strobe)
- 1st/2nd curtain sync with Canon/Nikon
- LCD (with light) display zoom settings, range, tilt etc
- High refresh rate for continuous exp with motordrive

Compatibilty:
- diff AF makes avaliable (Canon, Nikon, Minolta, Pentax)
- only compatible with film bodies (specified in manual), not digital

Build:
- not really that solid but can still tahan a bit, i think. a big piece of brick
- auto zoom head operation is noisy
- LED "ready" light on the rear panel may blind u for a while

if it's still retailing at $198 then i'm going to have to get something else.

I'm stuck between choices... SB28DX or SB80DX? 28DX new for $300 or 80DX used for $300? Haha! Some more I'm told today at a 2nd hand shop that the Emoblitz is more than enough for me already... don't waste money buy such expensive flashes since FZ20 cannot even support TTL... :p

I bought a around 4 to 5 years old SB28 from B&S for $110.
Some wear & tear but flash still working strong. :D

according to the spec of the sunblitz 450, it is only ttl dedicated to selected camera brand like nikon, canon etc and does not offer auto mode but instead power ratio. Since fz20 does not offer ttl, why spent for price 198? instead, spent a bit more to get more reputable brand such as canon or nikon flash with the auto system?
You can get embolitz at a much lower price (ard 60 now??) and will work well since it is automatic at f2.8 (fz20 f/stop is fixed throughout zoom at f2.8).
all depends on your usage and budget. another option is the suntax which too offers quite similar spec as emoblitz. only thing with suntax is that it does not have swivel.

I guess you are right. But didn't sORe-EyEz said he was using this flash? hmm?? I agree that the $198 price tag is a little hefty for a little known flash. I was expecting $120 and below. I guess I might just go for the Emoblitz.

i dont think the emoblitz have auto modes...
IMO, auto modes are really useful...you'll definitely get to appreciate having it...

i haf the emoblitz..
it has a semi auto mode i think.. flash power DOES vary with ambient light.
v v low light, it gives off a totally blinding flash.
in bright light , it gives off a small lil bit of flash..
u can't control it though.. there have been moments i need bright flash and have to cover the flash sensor to create dark env.

thats the sensor thats working...some say its the thyristor thats working, not too sure on that claim tho...
when u set auto mode, meaning that you are able to select max output for the flash....emoblitz has an auto mode but theres only one mode, meaning that the flash power availibility is set to max always...in terms of 3 auto modes for the metz, you have 2 other options to decide how powerful you want the flash to be...and that is controlled via the aperture setting on the metz.
oh, heres the link to my thread on flash issues...the gurus there are extremely helpful...
