hmm.. i was considering changing lens to 18-200 but was too lazy to do that for just one shot. would that have been a better lens?

Might be... at 200mm, you'd be able to shoot at f5.6 wide open but I'd suggest stopping down to f8 and mebbe increasing the ISO to 400 for a better shutter speed.
