shadow/highlights --> shadows 15%

DUPLICATE LAYER --> color balance (all yellow/blue): shadows +5, midtones +15, highlights +15, remove yellow cast

set layer type to color

curves + saturation (selective, on top part only)

crop 4:3

Behind is a blind area... the fishing rod and lines can fly back if tangled and pulled to clear...

To my right is my immediate danger area as I cast from that side, thus it's safer to stand on my left side when I am casting... :)

as a fisherman, i mean... as in, if you are fishing on a beach, will certain spots be better, i.e. it would reduce your chance of getting anything if you move 30 cm to the right... etc

metering seems done ok as far as i can see, main point is the processing.

first one can afford a lot more contrast as well as saturation. or conversion to bnw, right now it's looking a tad washed out.

the second one, sky is a bit dark, maybe can do shadow recovery to help with this. my preference is probably to layer two pictures with different exposures to ensure that minimal noise will be present. let me play with your photo and detail the steps.

ok.
i think i'll try again with the raw file.

so pretty.
i see mine like sai.
i dunno how to edit.

how should the metering be done?

many ways...

depending on your camera...

i never really used spot metering... but the most correct thing to do, is probably to spot meter for the brightest point that you can see and then go from there.

I was on matrix metering. :)

1st one was a little under though. Manage to push back from the RAW. :)

i like the lighting in the second one, did you do one without all the rocks in the foreground with that lighting?

Thanks bro. :D

Oh no, the street lamp, on my left, managed to lighted up the foreground a bit.

I removed the orange tint from the image. :)

I was saying it may be better to shoot at the spot where there is no railing (from 1st shot's spot).

Then Leong say "hey, the foreground may be nice to use."

And haha, this is what we got. :bsmilie:

top part selective saturation means i choose blue?

i just up saturation on a duplicate layer, then i erase away the bottom.

this is because the reflection colors are already quite deep, but the sky ones are quite subdued in comparison. :)

ah...

i think that scene with reflections would be nice!

don't know how high the reservoir levels were, can shoot from underneath where the railings are... and for the railings, also can shoot, just have to splay out all 3 legs, before shortening one to "lean" the tripod forward. :)

Wind too strong wor... so no nice reflection. :(

Oh, water level quite low below the railings. (water depth, i dunno huh...)

Hmm, can go below where the railings are. But will be on a slope.

Andrew and i wanted more of the MBS surface.. But we went till the end, still cannot get it. :(

May have to shoot from the opposite shore where the.. hmm, country club (?) is. :)

mbs surface? oh, as in, not such a side on view?

the opposite shore is ex marina park, it has been closed for works for now... used to be accessible, now still can, but risky, so won't advise it.

but when it's reopened, i think it will be a promising spot :)

got lots to learn in this area.

i think yapster meant from the golf course side?

the tools are quite standard, is just a lot of layering, curves, color manipulation, or variations/combinations of that. if you play more, will get better for sure.. :)

workflow a lot simpler than portraits.. sometimes i see van doing i want to pengsan.

ok last try and i'm off to bed.
this one i took yapster's image for a reference. (hope you don't mind) :embrass:

need to train my eyes to see the different colors.
i din notice the yellow tone until you tell me your processing and tried it myself.

oops.... i always thought it was marina park. yar, golf course side, currently closed to access from tanjong rhu (used to go that route)... think the golf course itself is closed, but not sure. used to be open to public, i think.

Ya.. Guess we prefer to have more of the MBS. But ain't really sure how it will look like.

Oh, i mean the shore where the condos are (opposite of Marina Barrage as well).

Yup yup, that ex marina park area should be able to give a new perspective to shoot.

But i think.. must learn vertorama from you. :bsmilie:

MBS should be quite close if i don't wanna include the expressway. So may not be able to contain it in a single frame.

if move further back, also not sure how the expressway will be like, in the frame. :)

No la, no mind la. Not sole copyright for me leh. Anyone can shoot there. :bsmilie:

If you notice, my MBS is slightly straighter (if my eyes are not playing me).

Cos i liquidfy. ;p

i think you will actually need a longer focal length for golf course view. i remember using 20mm last time...

but you will indeed be able to get more of the MBS instead of a side view.. :)

for marina park... i'm not sure, but i think it will be different as well, i only been there once, actually. :embrass:

So i have never been there lor (except for army half marathon when i was in NS). :bsmilie:

the kindergarten student is at it again...
