Behind is a blind area... the fishing rod and lines can fly back if tangled and pulled to clear...

To my right is my immediate danger area as I cast from that side, thus it's safer to stand on my left side when I am casting...

as a fisherman, i mean... as in, if you are fishing on a beach, will certain spots be better, i.e. it would reduce your chance of getting anything if you move 30 cm to the right... etc

metering seems done ok as far as i can see, main point is the processing.

first one can afford a lot more contrast as well as saturation. or conversion to bnw, right now it's looking a tad washed out.

the second one, sky is a bit dark, maybe can do shadow recovery to help with this. my preference is probably to layer two pictures with different exposures to ensure that minimal noise will be present. let me play with your photo and detail the steps.

how should the metering be done?

many ways...

depending on your camera...

i never really used spot metering... but the most correct thing to do, is probably to spot meter for the brightest point that you can see and then go from there.

I was on matrix metering.

1st one was a little under though. Manage to push back from the RAW.

i like the lighting in the second one, did you do one without all the rocks in the foreground with that lighting?

Oh no, the street lamp, on my left, managed to lighted up the foreground a bit.

I removed the orange tint from the image.

I was saying it may be better to shoot at the spot where there is no railing (from 1st shot's spot).

Then Leong say "hey, the foreground may be nice to use."

i just up saturation on a duplicate layer, then i erase away the bottom.

this is because the reflection colors are already quite deep, but the sky ones are quite subdued in comparison.

i think that scene with reflections would be nice!

don't know how high the reservoir levels were, can shoot from underneath where the railings are... and for the railings, also can shoot, just have to splay out all 3 legs, before shortening one to "lean" the tripod forward.

Hmm, can go below where the railings are. But will be on a slope.

Andrew and i wanted more of the MBS surface.. But we went till the end, still cannot get it.

May have to shoot from the opposite shore where the.. hmm, country club (?) is.

need to train my eyes to see the different colors.

MBS should be quite close if i don't wanna include the expressway. So may not be able to contain it in a single frame.

if move further back, also not sure how the expressway will be like, in the frame.
