Expose False Advertising and Broken Camera?

i don't quite buy the story as well. to me, the giveaway has to do with the mobile phone number used for the attempted transaction.

according to the provided story, there were 3 people supposedly involved; the person who posted the thread, the actual female owner of the camera, and her friend who came to meet us because she was in a meeting. unfortunately, there was only one phone number used throughout. details are as follows.

1. the day before meeting up, my friend contacted the seller through SMS, who identified "herself" as the owner of the DSLR. cited reason for selling as being a gift from her ex-boyfriend. safe to assume that this person would be the female seller as mentioned in the thread?

2. on the day itself, upon reaching the destination, my friend called the mobile number. the person who picked up was a male, who we saw was walking towards us as he answered our call. maybe she passed him her phone cos she was trapped in the aforementioned meeting for convenience's sake? possible. but then again, when we asked for a receipt, he appeared to be trying to call her (i say tried cos no conversation took place), before finally appearing to have received a silent SMS from her saying that she did not have the receipt. maybe he was calling and SMS-ing her through someone else who happened to also be in the same meeting? not impossible, but what are the odds, really?

3. my friend received an SMS from the "female seller" last night after i posted this thread, and guess what, same telephone number again.

oh, and here's the kicker. "she" told my friend that she checked the camera again and found the memory card slot to have absolutely no issues. i find that extremely hard to believe, since we both tried it and neither of us could get it to stick. i even pushed it in as deep as i could using my fingernail, hoping to feel some sort of catch mechanism to no avail. and also, she mentioned that she has the receipt. not found the receipt, but has the receipt. i'm sorry if it's just me being skeptical, but this all seems so convenient to the extent of being far-fetched.

i cannot say outright that she was or they were lying, since i am unable to provide conclusive evidence. however, i just wanted to sort of lay out the facts for all fellow clubsnappers to see and judge for themselves. :)

Yea poor buyer, gotten a camera that cannot even work, I think the buyer never try with a card.

This is another cheat. Try to push the blame to the seller friends. Good try.

most importantly, how can a gal treat the camera until like that? :bsmilie:

hahaha some girls like it rough?

i think this smells fishy. guys, at your own discretion, pls take note.

Its a careless mistake made by me. Thank you for all the comment. :D

Hi people,

I would like to clarify this matter and sincerely feel that this might be a misunderstanding.

I had met up with the lady owner earlier this evening and thereafter bought the camera from her.

She called me up last night to explain this matter as she was uptight that it might lead to a further confusion. She also shared with me the actual incidents that has occured between both parties and it is consistent with what the thread starter has posted.

I personally tested the camera and the SD slot is actually in good working condition. I tried dislodging and inserted the SD card several times and so far did not face any issues. I have since brought the camera home and inserted my own SD card and it is working perfectly as well.

Also, she has printed the E-Warranty for me which i am very thankful and it does state that the camera is warrantied till March 2010 (with 3 months extra warranty by Nikon).

I am sure that there are malicious sellers out there trying to exploit on genuine buyers however for this case i think it might be a true misunderstanding and i believe that the account holder has no intention to cheat but merely trying to help out his personal friend.

Cheers

How convenient! The new owner shows up and put in so much effort in helping to explain the "misunderstanding". You know, we are not a bunch of 3 year old, ok?

I would advice the real seller to just quietly fade away. Go and register another account instead.

In the mean time, for potential buyers that want to get a 2nd hand D40, please take extra care to ensure you don't get this "abused" camera and be the "Proud New Owner".

Cheers.

Hi people,

Firstly I would like to sincerely apologise to jonnodotsg, I was doing my friend a favour to sell her camera and I was stupid enough to rate it as 9 but didnt even actually see the actual condition. I claim it was a female user but a guy turn up because she was in a meeting and this guy friend helped her.

It is a total misunderstanding and my careless mistake wasted your precious time. I sincerely apologise and hope to close this matter peacefully.

Regards,
Careless guy

Hi People, just decide it for yourself with these similarities. You tell me they are not from the same person?

Perhaps the mods should take a look at the IP addresses of Wangbrand and b3lgarion. I bet they are the same.

CS Tan should rename to CSI Tan..hahaha

maybe is a case of a schezo....dual personalities...

Either way, it will be hard to sell this camera off now..

eh. sold already.. didn't see

From the reply of the 'new pwner', the camera should still be available. However, with all the discussion here, it will most likely come back under a different account in the B&S so that is why potential buyers of D40 should be very careful.

 Nice one...

Anyway,
the new owner stated "this evening" he bought the camera which means was last night. But from BNS, the buyer posted sold was on the previous night. Don't link leh... the days don't add up. :sticktong

Example: a person din see a 2nd hand camera, then straight away can buy??? Must be psychic.

More and more inconsistencies and contradictions appearing each time hehe; as they say, its hard to cover up one lie with another lie.

Believe it or not its up to you guys. I'm just doing my fren a favour, i beg u all to pls get the moderator to check on me and the buyer. Apologising to all i receive critics, lastly gd luck to ALL of you. My conscience is clear.

How can your conscience be clear when you are not telling the truth? Somemore want to disguise yourself haiz. You are giving the B&S section a bad name.

it would be the best to see a few pictures of the physical quality of the cam before going down to meet the buyer.
