i don't quite buy the story as well. to me, the giveaway has to do with the mobile phone number used for the attempted transaction.
according to the provided story, there were 3 people supposedly involved; the person who posted the thread, the actual female owner of the camera, and her friend who came to meet us because she was in a meeting. unfortunately, there was only one phone number used throughout. details are as follows.
1. the day before meeting up, my friend contacted the seller through SMS, who identified "herself" as the owner of the DSLR. cited reason for selling as being a gift from her ex-boyfriend. safe to assume that this person would be the female seller as mentioned in the thread?
2. on the day itself, upon reaching the destination, my friend called the mobile number. the person who picked up was a male, who we saw was walking towards us as he answered our call. maybe she passed him her phone cos she was trapped in the aforementioned meeting for convenience's sake? possible. but then again, when we asked for a receipt, he appeared to be trying to call her (i say tried cos no conversation took place), before finally appearing to have received a silent SMS from her saying that she did not have the receipt. maybe he was calling and SMS-ing her through someone else who happened to also be in the same meeting? not impossible, but what are the odds, really?
3. my friend received an SMS from the "female seller" last night after i posted this thread, and guess what, same telephone number again.
oh, and here's the kicker. "she" told my friend that she checked the camera again and found the memory card slot to have absolutely no issues. i find that extremely hard to believe, since we both tried it and neither of us could get it to stick. i even pushed it in as deep as i could using my fingernail, hoping to feel some sort of catch mechanism to no avail. and also, she mentioned that she has the receipt. not found the receipt, but has the receipt. i'm sorry if it's just me being skeptical, but this all seems so convenient to the extent of being far-fetched.
i cannot say outright that she was or they were lying, since i am unable to provide conclusive evidence. however, i just wanted to sort of lay out the facts for all fellow clubsnappers to see and judge for themselves.
