Experiences with the new K-7 Camera

thanks fengwei for all the tests...
this is too poisonous a thread...

That sounds about right.

I think the lack of focus speed is partly due to the lack of ring USM in the Pentax lenses while the competition (C, N, S) have ring USM on most of their lenses. DA* lenses have the micromotor instead of the ceramic ring drive found in Canikon.

K-7's AF-C is definitely improved over the K20D, but still not as good as the A700 or D300. I tried out an A700 with kit lens (non USM?) yesterday at the Sony store, and the thing was bloody fast and accurate...damn..it 'feels' even faster than the D300. K-7 is definitely not as fast. I am not impressed by Canon's AF-C; the few times I tried it on the 50D and 5D-II with an L lens, it struggled to track properly and the shots were OOF.

TBH, I've not been bothered by the K20D's shutter 'lag', so no complaints on that front.

D300 is fast and accurate but can't say the same for A700 ..................

50D is better than A700 any day ................. :)

FYI, in terms of overall AF-C accuracy, A700 is right up there..
Original was from german fotoMagazin and was also discussed in dpreview canon forum as well as pentaxforums last year (all using in-lens motor):

Ah.

Given the K20d's price, it's almost like having an expensive P&S ;) haha.

That's true. But K20D is too big to be carried around everyday, isn't it :)

Just uploaded two short video taken by K-7 and F*300/4.5 here:

I think you guys can do better 'cause I'm really bad at shooting videos ...

Haha Fengwei....I think I hear Dennis in the background.:bsmilie:
BTW, can confirm the camera does not autofocus in video mode ? So the safest bet is to set it to infinite ?
Do upload some movies of moving objects as that will indicate if the frame rate is good enough.
Thanks for sharing! :)

Cannot face using a P&S nowadays. :p

yes you can if you are using the Fujifilm F200EXR :)
Others will recommend the LX3 or the G10 but I don't have a fetish for carrying a brick in my pants pocket! :bsmilie: But I do believe the latest generation of Pentax PnS are quite good too. The P70 looks so promising. can't understand why they left out the optical stabilisation and used a smaller 1/2.3" CCD.

hi, is the size of k7 closer to k100d super or k20d?
i have not held a k20d before, but i liked how my k100d feel in my hand
how is the iq of a jpeg straight from k7 compared with k100d super?
is pre order is still available now?

* Definitely closer to K100Ds in size. (I have it too.)
* Should be better. K100Ds is 2007 model, K-7 is latest model. (Don't see quality of images going backwards.)
* Pre-order, email to ask Ronald directly: rw@eepl.biz

Cheers!

Mmm. This Fujifilm model caught my eye with its claim of improved low-lite performance, but in the end, it's still a compact. A good one, yes, but the compromises overwhelmed me. :P

Hence my interest in the Oly PEN and Samsung NX.. as long as prices come down to <1k. Meanwhile, I'm ok with carrying my K100Ds with either 21 or 35 lens on it daily.

Hi
The F200EXR is a premium compact for those who want amongst the best IQ that can be squeezed out of a smaller CCD. If you are looking for all those new gangled add ons like face detect that can recognise your face, etc, then Fuji is not for you. But seriously, for $1000, it makes more sense to get the K-m instead. The F200 cost $469 (and price is coming down !) gives good quality images, so much so on occasions when its not convenient to lug my K200 along, the F200 fills that space well as long as you can remember its NOT a DSLR;).
The Olympus Pen1 does not look interesting though. A mini DSLR in an LX3 package.;p

Hi
A mini DSLR in an LX3 package.;p

And that is exactly what I'm after.. DSLR-quality images in a compact camera form. :)

I'm looking at below-$1k second-hand prices before I bite though... something like 700-800 tops, which is about the cost of the high-end bridge cameras anyway.

got a LX3.. i must say, I am impress with its quality.. and many of my friends are too, especially when it perform in areas their compact could not...

What were you using as support in the videos? Leaning on something or no support?
