Every picture tells a story

Attractions or distractions?

While there are tourist attractions , the path to these places may be paved with even more distractions like hawker food, shoppimg places.
These are places that street photographers lurk too.

Defence against the street photographer_tip 7.

So look down or look away.

DistractionS.

14303178713_bbe343e3dc_c.jpg

Potential victims, do keep a lookout for us. We are just lurking round the corner.

Watch out!

Hi Gm,
I see that you are also smitten by the sea.
Alluding to my previous post on tip 1, masked. I was merely demonstrationg the effectiveness of the batman mask.
I am glad you noticed it! As for not that smart...you are not alone, count me in too!

So when to apply the batman mask?

Whenever i request for a posed shot and permission to post not seeked or some innocent local kid.

So here are the "victims" unmasked. The sunglasses and hair are real!

POW!

My favourite places for visitors are our zoos. Our zoos really know how to milk the tourist dollars. Three different admissions!
Although the river safari does act as a wet weather alternative.

They never fail to fascinate me. The playful and graceful otters are always a sight to watch. Most fascinating!

Poetry in motion.

I hope they had as much fun visiting as i had hosting.

Hey Hak Wee,
Thinking of landscape or wedding? Haha...

I look forward to your stories. Thank you very much.

Landscape my dear friend. I'm a sucker for scapes haha

Stage, light, sound...

A chance outing to shoot some getai scene in the rain somewhat fizzled out after the heavy rain came to a stop. Our visions of umbrella carrying audience braving the rain to catch the show dashed. Nevertheless all is not lost.

The stage and the best seat in the house.

14180792500_3f34fa0145.jpg

The lights.

14365861322_f7cbb846f1.jpg

The host.
She banters with the crowd. Sometimes a space filler between performers.

14180898867_8e1d34bee9_c.jpg

The song
I have yet to hear a song that tugs at the heartstring like a Hokkien song... sob sob. Aiyah..."881" lagi sob sob.

14365861012_e86090a258_c.jpg

The performer.
Stepping into the limelight to the sound of pulsating music, a long way from fame and fortune but nevertheless a rousing performance.

continue...

The support
Family , friends or just a loyal supporter.

and of course, not forgetting

...the mini skirt!
Flamboyant costumes and killer heels make for a night to remember.

I look forward to your stories. Thank you very much.

What a difference a day makes!

On Saturday, i was leaving the exhibition on Saudi Arabia when a glint caught my eye.
I saw lines, light, clouds, reflections, transition from nature to buildings. I like what i saw.

Skyline_a dp1m moment. Excessive yellow and blue cast is quite the characteristic of the foveon sensor and of course damn sharp!(i am shallow, fortunately i have the cam with me!)

14366873515_e3b9624f82_b.jpg

On Sunday, wife and i drove down the arching branches of tree lined Upper Thomson (my favourite road scene in Singapore) to brunch at Ampang Yong Tau Fu place at Sembawang.
As usual we'll take a little walk around the place and guess what, another glint of light caught my eye.
The late morning sun shone on me as i walked pass the banana tree. I looked up and saw this.

Tree line_a htc moment.

14193093458_71c579d164_c.jpg

Open skies, leaf separating puffs of clouds and vapour trail, a fresh growth of banana. Is that a solar panel?
A feeling of liberation

Then i remembered "Skyline", it now has a sense of feeling trapped (not that i feel oppressed or anything like that, picture now has an added dimension).
In fact i like the picture even more, as a pair and the new feel it evokes. Such a contrasting pair. Even the title of the picture changed from "View from the 10th" .

Which leaves me to offer a suggestion.

Gone fishing_a htc moment.

Work hard but sometimes make time to enjoy simple things like a walk in the park or go visit Ulu Sembawang.

Hi Darryl,
Thanks for dropping by , i am sure you are having a good time capturing many personal:thumbsup: moments around Singapore. Maybe one of these days i'll join you. Be warned, we mostly likely end up trading stories rather than taking pictures! Haha.

I look forward to your stories. thank you very much.

Gone fishing is a nice shot Teng. If only we can do that at times, just drop our work and go do the things we love most.

Wa now you mention Sembawang, makes me "gian" to go have that yong tau hu later

My cameras have been in cold storage for way too long.
Last night an opportunity to bring out the cameras happened at my doorstep. Another getai!

Charge.
The anticipation and sense of adventure of a hunter course thru my veins again.

Piece de resistance!
But first thing first.
The background kitchen team preparing dinner for the evening.
I was drawn to the aroma of roasting meat. Oh... the aroma!!!
Behind every roast suckling pig is a grill master.

Front row.
Tissue paper culture to reserve seats at food court is carried forward into the afterlife.
Or did the living learnt from the dead?

Parade.
The 7th month ghost festival is also a visual treat.
Flamboyant costumes are one of the charms of a getai.
I especially like how they integrated the lampost, banners and even the tree with the stage!

Limelight
I missed catching the hairlight.

Great images Teng! Of cos your stories are always engaging :)

Lip synching.

The songs never fail to bring out the budding singer.

14736715437_29fdb0200f_o.jpg

Helping hands.

The blinding lights made walking off stage a challenge sometimes.

I am next.

Ready for her act.

Artistes

Charming people, ever so accommodating to a photographer, both on and off stage.
Thank you!
I don't have their names but they are with " The Travellers" troupe.

Off stage.

Nice recent additions. Keep the Getai shots coming.

Yesterday, i was at the kite festival again.

Western getai, singing the blues.

Guess what? A getai at the Marina Bay area.
Hopefully one of these days, someone will organise a 7th month getai or street opera at the marina bay area.
Residents of Marina bay area celebrating 7th month?

14827772740_4a487166ec_o.jpg

Audience.

Those seated at the back of the stage, probably the equivalent of "chef's table". Missing the food though.
A:"The photographer is over here"
B: " No! Over there"
...invisible photographer?

Those in the front.

Standing room and grass patch only. The privilege ones will be resting on a loved one's shoulder.

Spidey.

I watched "The amazing Spiderman 2" last night.
Guess who i saw yesterday!

Things in the air.

Bubbles flew around too.

Daoyin, Thanks for the encouragement, last night's getai did not materialise. I was there, only the tentage and display were up. Duh!
Melvinevers, Thanks for dropping by, glsd some of my stories resonate with you.

to be continued...

More things about to be launched into the air.

I had a wonderful time seated in the front row floor of a juggling perfomance by"Hatman".
One father volunteered his kid for a juggling act.
The anticipation of a kid flying thru the air...WOW!!!

What a father!

He was struggling to launch one.

He succeeded!

Small things on the ground.

This one required little effort to be grounded or flown.
The worst thing that can happen to a kite is to be grounded.
Grounded but stil smiling, afterall with effort it will soar again another day!

Wings.

Thanks a lot! Daoyin, for the link. I will definitely refer to it when the urge to be a getai papparazzi calls out to me!

More small things on the ground.

Not every kid likes to fly kite. In fact i noticed more adults flying kites than kids...
So what were the kids doing while their parents were flying kites?

Walking on air. Tight rope walker?

Cityscape/landscape photographer to be.
I can't help wondering about Hak Wee's growing up years...

14867205619_5e22fd8cc8_o.jpg

Finally, something BIG!

This one literally requires a ton of effort to be grounded, each bag is 500kg! It is also tethered to mother earth by posts hammered into the ground! Someone asking you to go fly kite may be demanding more than you think!
It also requires a stronger gust of wind to rise to the ocassion, but rolling on the ground with the gentle breese is also quite a sight.
Somehow Adele's "Rolling in the deep" came to mind.

Once again an outing to the kite festival proved to be most uplifting.

Next time it will be fishing.

I look forward to your stories. Thank you very much.
