EOS M5 coming before Photokina

As a working videographer, let me say this: the M5 is a C100 without C-log and XLR. For a quarter of the price of the C100, I think it is a bloody good deal! Top that off with touch AF function not even found in the Cinema line, buying the M5 is a no brainer.
The closest camera I can compare this to is the beloved Lumix GH2. Same size, same limitations BUT (and a big BUT at that) with video AF that actually WORKS. for Videogs, Dual Pixel AF is the biggest deal here.
The small form factor of the M5 also makes it the perfect camera for gimbal work.

-A light touch to select focus.
-Accurate tracking of selected subject.
-E-stablisation to help with minor Y-axis translations.

Hard act to follow.

You've managed got your hands on this beauty already?

From the pictures on the side you could see the shuttle release.

Thinking hard to upgrade from M3 or not. The built-in EVF, shutter release, same battery is a plus. The screen turn down 180 degrees instead of up now, but would still prefer if they could do it sideways.

The price is really challenging this round (unlike M3 was really great offer when Japan initial release)

I also struggle whether to upgrade from my M3 due to the size.

Well as for me, here are my reasons to upgrade to M5:

-Do not have the luxury of time to snap a pic
-Do not have full control of my subjects
-Faster AF
-Many low light environments
-Built-in EVF so that I can use external flash systems

Some reasons why I shouldn't have upgraded:
-Touch AF when using view finder(prefer the normal selection in a mirrored dslr
-Its still a mirrorless n the grip increased only slight. Like a mm or so
-Pricey
-Not a big improvement to the M3.

Ask yourself what pictures do you take? If day to day u no need the fast af, shutter, can managed with the evf and no need for an external flash system. And so on.

Weigh your pros & cons. Upgrade? Don't upgrade? Am I able to fund it? Etc

Hope these helps [emoji1]

I havent used the previous one, but i agree with most of your points. the AF is really fast and reliable, i must say it may be probably better than sony a7. m5 tracking is definitely better than sony a7, a7s.

I really like the touch AF, i feel its much easier than using a joystick, especially when the camera its small, it makes sense to have the touch screen rather than pressing many buttons just to get to the af selection. it does make it more enjoyable to take photos.

anyways this is just my personal opinion, hope it helps

Anyone has got the local shop prices yet ?

You are looking at getting the kits? Or body only? And the EF adapter have to be collected at Canon itself.

I'll be interested to get the body if it comes with the EF adapter. Don't seemed to see this bundle in Canon website leh.

Same here. Can't find such a promotion on Canon's webpage.

i got the adaptor for $140
Well as far as I know, I snap this some time ago. And I think it has since been taken down.

But from the image, it says customer who purchased the eos m5. So not sure...

Hmm.. that's interesting. I do have a camera and a lens registered with Canon SG as I have sent them in for servicing/troubleshooting before.

Time to head down to my favourite shops for some clarification. :)

So the adapter is worth more than the cheapest lens in the Canon line up? What are these guys smoking?
