Oh? Is STM faster than USM? I always thought it has smoother zooming and quieter only, especially for video.
The 40mm on the 5D3 isn't that fast no?
Note: just so there's no confusion, I meant ring USM
lol, STM is faster with CDAF. Jeez...Ring USM is faster than STM for sure on a Dslr. But dunno if this is true on an EOS-M.

Don't really care about specs and such. Think that the EOS-M is still an awesome camera, with all the goodness packed into a small package.
If Canon really fixes the AF problem, it may really sell well... But not sure if it's enough to win new buyers.
If the AF issue is resolved, I'll sell my Olympus OMD and get the EOS-M plus upcoming 35 f/2 IS lens. At least the latter is compatible with Canon FF camera. :bsmilie:
Honestly, I expect Canon AF to easily match Sony NEX series. The idea of on-sensor AF phase sensors + contrast based AF makes a lot of sense to me, both speed and accuracy should be easily achievable.
SkyStrike said:Well, I'm not an expert in mechanics, so I don't know how much firmware upgrade can improve the AF speed... But if it really matches NEX's AF or OMD's AF speed, It's really worth considering in the future..
NEX or OMD? lol, both aren't even in the same league when it comes to AF. The new NEX are better but you almost don't notice the improvement.
SkyStrike said:Oh, I was referring to Canon's EOS-M's (rumored) Firmware Upgrade. If only it can be as fast as OM-D or NEX..
I know ;-) that's why I was trying to say the NEX isn't any faster than the EOS M as it is now already.
SkyStrike said:hmmm, I have quite +ve about NEX's AF in live view...thou I know it's much slower than OM-D's AF..
