EOS M: M for Mirrorless

Maybe via the hotshoe ha ha....

Don't think this is possible unless there are more pins in the hotshoe. From the official pics the EOS-M is using the same standard Canon hotshoe.

Give Canon a chance lah - this is their first product on this market segment. Remember the Olympus EP-1? It was slow to focus as well. Also I do think that such a small camera needs small lenses and Canon hasnt shown its roadmap. Using L lenses is gonna make handling goofy for sure. It's quite small but frankly does lack some key features like a good EVF - wonder if the EOS Mii will have one (remember the EP-1 didnt have one either). Frankly, I am a bit disappointed - feels like canon didnt put much thought into it. Compare this to the Oly Pens or even the OMD. This model is gonna have a hard time IMHO.

IMHO, I think this is just a test market model.. to assess for themselves the strength of the Canon brand - how many pple will buy it irregardless of the previews.. as well as the popularity of the MILC genre

Another hypothesis is similar to that of the Nikon V1 - they are afraid that too fantastic a new product range will cannibalise their own precious DSLR sales.. so prefer to pace themselves first...

Third hypothesis is that they are just trying to spread their risks by getting a foothold in this new genre first, instead of stubbornly holding on to their DSLR range ... in case a real DSLR-killing-MILC suddenly emerge amongst their competitors.. I'm sure they don't want to go the way of Nokia, which not too long ago, were the market leaders.

Well, as a Sony NEX user, I'm pretty glad that Canon have entered the fray, cuz it will up the competition level, and it will only push all the other brands, including Sony, to up their game further...it's good for us consumers !

Can we or is there an adapter to mount ef-m lens to eos body?
Mounting a EF-M 22mm f2 lens on EOS body would be great.

I agree with your second hypothesis. I believe mirrorless will pickup just like the transition to digital age. Mirrorless packages are smaller and should be cheaper to manufacture with lesser mechanically parts (like the mirror). Who knows maybe canon will might fine stream their product line.
1) EF lens will all be L lens
2) EF-S lens without weather sealing for XXD and XD body
3) new mirrorless body with EVF and new set of EF-M lens to replace XXXD and XXXXD models

So far only Olympus offers weather seal mirrorless body and lens. Maybe when the time comes where professional also use mirrorless. Canon will come up with a full frame mirrorless as well. :>

not possible as the glass elements are small on the EF-M lenses, it is optimized to project a complete image circle at a much shorter flange distance. Mounting an EF-M lens on EOS body will give you vision similar to mounting a toilet roll on your camera.

why does it look like the lens is not heavy at all. lol

ang moh bigger size ma so the lens look smaller :bsmilie: I think the EOS-M will look like the size of a Leica M if you give it to a little girl

This one is like those magic show with a woman sleeping on air. Hiding behind the hanging strap there is probably a metal stand

Or that was just a really big lens cup glued to a EOS-M :)

This lens weigh 4.5kg.... but in his arms, it looked like it was only 45g.....

Not sure myself. But the source of this info is VERY reliable... :bsmilie:

If one designs a camera to accept existing dSLR lenses, then it would be a big mistake to make it too small or too thin.
Canon did not make this terrible design mistake.

High number frames per second do not matter for most people, on such lower-middle-range compacts.

The design look is not bad. The LCD is an anti smudge touch screen, so maybe that's why no dial control and no tilt screen.
But there will be later models and design refinements.
I don't like touch screen menus on cameras. Much prefer buttons and dials. Maybe later models will have this.
Black is nicest. Glossy white is strange.
Hot shoe provision is good. It seems to have additional contact points above the usual 5.

There will be improved models later on.

But this will be the main selling point and its reason for existence:
With adapter, can mount Canon EOS EF and EF-S dSLR lenses and maintain full-AF coupling as well as functionality.

Where can I test this smooth mirror less in Singapore ?
