And I can't wait for the 19AF points to be incorporated into 5D3 :D

And that's when I retire my 5D from active duy, in about 2 years' time :bsmilie:

I think this will sort of replace the 50D. To me, 7D is like a hyped-up xxD series and Canon just gives it a single digit to make it look and sound more pro.

Before 7D, Canon do not have an SLR in the $2000-$3000 range, where all this while Nikon has enjoyed with their D300 / D300s. Now it is time to gain some market share.

50D or future 60D will still be around to cover $1300 - $1999 range to steal market share in this segment where Nikon D90 has roaring success over Canon. I doubt Canon will leave a void in this category, to hand over to Nikon to thrive in.

And 500D, 1000D are of different class altogether in terms of build and pricing below $1299, where Nikon has its D5000, D3000 tuck-within nicely.

Shared some details of discussion with a friend last night on the new release (At least over hour discussion).

There are two important things on the release of these new products. Price and functionability. If Canon Singapore, quote the 7D at a high price (Guess over SGD$2500). They will expect a slow sales for 7D. Why? FF users will not be interested, they would rather wait for a faster speed FF cameras. Next those who have 50D or lower will still be happy using their own camera unless the camera is over 1 year old.

If the 7D price is at lower price (Guess less than SGD$2000), it will cause a stir in the pricing for other camera bands. I would see swtiching over of brands and people will be dumping their current system except FF users.

Next is functionability. 7D structure is very similiar to Nikon D300 (80% similar). There is nothing to be fancy about. If Canon user wants to hold something similar to Nikon, 7D is a good choice.

7D is a total makeover with implementation of new system and functions (Cannot compare with 50D). I could say they are willing to change to meet the user expectation and that is a good sign. But new systems and functions will have pending issues. Every launch of new cameras have functional issues, but that can be solved through firmware or system repair.

My personal opinion is 7D is a wait and see camera. There are still time to see more reviews before the launch (A lot of reading) to see the new system got any issues. If the pricing is around $1900 - $2200, maybe I will consider a 3rd camera.....Will try to feedback once I have the chance to hand-on on 7D. :)

My main priority will be looking into the new 100m marco lens. That lens is something worth having.. It will be a good tool for product and portrait shoot. Hopefully, the price will be SGD$1500 or less.

True that the 7D is miles ahead of the xxd series and like how many of you feel, I agree that this is how a xxd model should be in today's world. However, I really don't think canon will scrape off the xxd series. I mean look at the US rrp, totally different between 50d and 7d- $1199 vs $1699. If they kill off the xxd series, then nikon will really own the D90 market segment liao. I mean if you compare 500d to D90, don't you feel you get a lot more for just a little more right?

Let's say, 7D will be the benchmark for future Canon cameras. More R&D will be focused on implementing this system into the future camera. FF cameras with new system but slower FPS. 1D series will have new system with faster speed.

But one thing for sure, the mega pixels will be lesser for some cameras due to the fact for what usage. :)

Good observations bro. But I doubt the bengs at Canon Singapore think that much :bsmilie:. I can see them pricing it at $2699.

I don't think so. Base on internal price calculation. Lesser unless include GST. :bsmilie:

its definitely gonna be btw 2400-2600. abt 600-800 more than the current 50D. still quite attractive, considering what u get in the camera. definitely worth getting. a mini 1d!

I'm interested in knowing what features the 60D would be having.... compare to the new 7D.

I don't really need the 8fps or dual Digi chip..... only real need is the 19point AF. Good to have would be the 100% viewfinder and the new 'Hub' focus screen. So, if the 60D have its retail price lower to $1500-1600 SGD for body.... I might just stick with the xxD series

points to note abt the EOS 7D and i just realised it as well ...

it is the 2nd fastest canon camera, faster than 1dmk2 if u consider its resolution size.

it has also the fastest 14 bit imagining processing rate in the whole dslr market. impressive bits of technology from canon. it will be interesting to see how the other brands try to catch up to this.

the video mode is the most advanced one in the market right now, triumphing its big brother, the 5D2. again the other brands are left smelling the smoke once again.

Buy buy buy.. time for a 3rd body...

Very well said bro, and good in-depth analysis.

I am of the same stand as you.....after the 1DMk3 AF fiasco, I would rather wait out for more reviews and field tests coz as of yet this new 19-point AF system is relatively untested...especially for action shots. I would like to know if its AI Servo tracking is at least on par with the current 1 series. (something that many xxD owners gripe about). If it can track BIF (i.e. birds in flight) relatively well then it would be worth it....this is still something the current xxD series cannot achieve with high number of keeper shots. Esepecially going at full burst mode (i.e. 8fps)..wonder what its keeper rate would be like.

Good observations bro. But I doubt the bengs at Canon Singapore think that much :bsmilie:. I can see them pricing it at $2699.
Lol...yeah the "bengs" at Canon SG always control pricing on most Canon products including cameras...so I would not be surprised to see RRP for 7D around $2.7 or 2.8k....my guess is that the initial street price should be as what you quoted...$2699. Hopefully it would be cheaper than that...

Hmm.. I thought 500D should compete with D5000, and 50D to the D90. 7D vs D300S. 5D MK2 vs D700 and so on.

If I am not mistaken, Nikon has the upperhand... as far as cost is concerned. ;p

:Later,

IMO.

In corporates, naming a product and what features to include are always done from marketing perspective on how to generate max revenue in market competition. Engineers just follow what the marketing people "want". For instance the name for Windows Vista (that has its original code name as Longhorn, eventhough in the end, features in Vista is not really what they wanted Longhorn to be, it is just a downsized version), Apple iPod, etc.

Therefore, if Canon named it as 7D, they must have certain target market or strategy to generate revenue.

strange indeed. I thought the xD series will be all FF while the xxD remain APS-C. If yes, this so called 7D should be 60D?
