....... with these specs, sure to get bludgeoned to death by the D700 .............:thumbsd:

IF the 7d's out, isnt it gonna compete withe the d300 instead of the d700?

At what price level? ..... so they have to make it at least a 16MP FF....

It won't surprise me if Canon tries to repeat 300D history (except this time it's for FF) by introducing a cheap dumbed down FF camera. This will entice more first time FF adopters who will eventually be tempted to buy Canon's L lenses. Remember Sony is coming up with a cheap FF camera next week. :bsmilie:

If its indeed really FF....probably the vital factor would be the pricing compared to D700. This is the tricky part coz Canon can't price it too low else they would cannibalize their own 5D2 market.

D300 is a crop sensor body...unless the 7D is a cropper too...actually from the top plate picture leaked above, I hazard a guess thats its not gonna be a FF...at most an APS-H (1.3x). So far all Canon's FF DSLR do not have built in flash.

We'll prolly know in a couple weeks time...

camera is not meant to go head to head with D700.

as much as people would like to do side-by-side comparison of the brands, sometimes there is no perfect fit on a direct competitor. nikon has many more models that tend to blur the distinctions. canon is kind of better segmented in product type.

a budget FF would go very nicely into canon's current offering... 5D series as the high res and 7D as the low res. 1D and 1Ds maintain their usual positioning.

i know a lot of people using xxD that would like to go FF but the gap between that and the 5D2 is a little too far. 7D meeting the price point in between could be regarded as a god-send for this market segment.

with the D700 offering a built-in flash, canon is just reacting to this market trend. i wouldn't be surprised if the next iteration of the 5D also features a built-in flash.

Oops.. no external link, found an additional re-hosted pict over at CR:

What's the B mode for? It's in between M and C1? It cant be bulb right?

More (confusing) clues here:

No scene mode => prosumer or pro camera
Top LCD => prosumer or pro camera
New M.Fn. button => customizable button???
On/Off switch on top, just like xxxD/xxxxD seies => no space due to different LCD screen (larger or articulate)???

My eyes not good.. There is a place for the built in flash right?
So, can this means it is a 60D (probably) rather then the 7D?

Hmm, according to Canon rumors new EOS will be announced on 1 Sept.. If it is a 7D, means.... I cannot upgrade... should be too expensive for me

very nice!!!!

like this means pro level DSLR prices will confirm drop

I agree with you this release seems more like a XXD camera. But mode dial belongs to the XD series! So this camera is the long awaited bridge between the XXD and XD series!

I guess it should be APS-H and around 2.5k. If my guess is correct, I surely bbb!

By the looks of the pentaprism "tower", its gonna be very hard squeezing in one big enough for a FF sensor. Unless you're talking about 90% or less coverage.

So, I would lay my bets on an APS-H camera at the very most for the camera which this item is meant for. Lack of additional scene modes seem to indicate that its not an entry level camera. So, it may result in a parallel line to that of the 1D and the 5Dmkii with the 1Ds series.

But then again, all the rumours out there seem to indicate a FF EOS 7D, so my guess is only as good as anybody else's. :dunno:

Or maybe this is not for the 7D ?? :bsmilie:

Just like what Dolly of Under One Roof always says... "So Exciting....!!" I also bet this one is gonna be an improved version of the 5D Classic, meant to beat the sales of D700.

Ya. Unlike xxD where if you go beyond 30" it turns to Bulb, for 5D and 5DMII (not sure 1 series), you have to specifically choose the B mode to use bulb function.

not really. remember the 300d body borrowed from 10d when the 20d is released? Given how unimaginative canon is, they might be trying the same thing...
Also note that 5d2 effectively cannibalise 1dsm3 market too. Most pple who want the resolution of the 1dsm3 for the megapixel, to be used a studio camera choose to get the 5d2 at 1/3 the price....

It might be a 5d re bandaged as a 7d, just give it a bigger LCD, some new processsor etc and sell it at $2.5K like hot cakes.

Well, whatever the specs gonna be, 5D MII price would likely to drop once this new model is released.

Don't bet your horses on that...

One of the main reasons the 5DmkII prices have remained so high even after so long is the strong demand from commercial HD video work. Especially independent movie makers and areas such as advertisement work. That's like effectively doubling / tripling the demand for such a class of cameras compared to a 'normal' DSLR that can take on pictures and crappy VGA video.

IMHO, the price of 5DII will only drop if the new model is an upgrade to the previous (like 5DIII), example, price of 450D slightly drop after the release of 500D...
