EOS 7D user,information sharing thread.

7D (default 3 sharpness) with 400mm f5.6L.
#1 have EXIF intact (re-sized) - Meta information here
#2 file is 100% with no modification.
I would love to see real life comparison between 7D and 5DMII (i don't see a point comparing mountain where both 5D and 7D looking soft to me).

your photos sharp and clear. nice.
Thanks for sharing.

Not mine, those are just examples of photos taken with the 7D. Too much bad press on the net, maybe we should look at what the camera can achieve.

I am not sure if it's miracle or just the silly-me....:dunno:

I've decided to try on the focusing test again... all same settings except that instead of room lighting (last night), I shifted the test to living room with ambient lighting (this afternoon). VOILA and all the supposedly "back-focusing" is gone except in the 105mm focal length. Even then, the "back-focusing" at 105mm is so minute and is only 10-20mm difference. In the end, I just settle for -5 on the AF Micro-adjustment for this particular lens. My 50mm f1.4 has no issue after hours of testing on its AF.

Bottomline, it's either I don't understand the mechanics behind all this 7D's AF mambo-jumbo or miracle just happened.... LOL ;p

Question - Is AF Micro-adjustment just another normal process of owning a DSLR or am I one-in-a-million (maybe thousand) ?

hey hey yes, it took me 2 weeks to figure out that the AF issue varies depending on the lighting condition. For my case, white lighting (sunlight, flourescent) works perfectly with no micro-adjustments requires, but under incadescent lighting it has a serious front focusing issue that requires +15 of micro adjusting to fix. *sigh*

i'm NOT going to settle for a camera that requires microadjustment everytime i switch to a different lighting condition. it's just too stressful for me, especially when i note that even my 3-yo 400D is more well-behaved. *sigh*

LOL... u mean a partial area flashing black and white?

it is trying to show u where the pic is over exposed... refer to your manual to turn it off...

bring to service center only if your entire screen is flashing.

You shouldn't anyhow enable everything in menu ;). This is good feature which can tell you which areas are overexposed so that you can readjust your setting to take picture in perfect exposure.

ah i see ok then....good to know...sorry its my first camera....havent attended the class to use it yet. been using it as a point and shoot so far. thanks.

Goodness gracious, 7D for P n S. Better do your homework b4 you attend class, otherwise you will fail miserably.

7D is way too much problems. Can't imagine if u type 7D AF issue.... tons of website esp forum reporting it.... i will hold back my buying and maybe save up longer to get a 5D MKII.

It seems the AF problems are more inherent in those early batches, doesn't matter where it's bought from.

But I'm probably waiting till photokina next year before making any buy decision.

will the camera body causes left or right focusing?
i got two lenses which both causes some form of left focus.could it be the body or user problem?

Thanks for the reply. But the photokina will be in sep nxt year! Have to wait till then?
Hmmm.. pardon me for some noob questions.

1) how do we determine which batches of EOS 7D are the latest batch?
2) Any "Pre-check UAT" to go through before throwing my hard earned money into this "beast".
3) I heard from some CSers actually address this EOS 7D as "a piece of crap" (Pls dun flame me, this actually can be found in the CS forum). What make ppl address it "crap" ?

i so wanting to buy this cam and i need the users' opionion of it.

Thanks.;)

I haven't bought so not sure can answer all your questions, anyway:

1 Serial Num? There're some rumours what S/N have problems, but I'll just check if it has the latest firmware installed.
2 You can look at Bro Doodah's thread, he has some AF problems with his cam and gives some details to how he tested the focusing.
3 Actually I think the 7D is a very fine camera, very advanced and probably require lots of understanding to do the customisation. But it's the QC issues from Canon that bugs everyone. Probably they meant the QC process is crap, not the camera itself. ;p
