EOS 7D user,information sharing thread.

read thru this thread and wonder is the cheapest 7D avail from SLR revolution? Are they selling at SGD 2220 before GST (free 2x4GB CF card)?
what is this thing buying direct from canon? where do i buy from? it is SGD 2220 as well?

intending to hoot one this weekend.

I bought mine with the kit lens from them. It came with 2 x 4gb cf card and eos bag. Quite comfortable with the sales guys there and the service is reasonable. Ha ha you can't have it all. Between price and service I'll go for price if the service is reasonable.

Dear All,

I have been reading about all the AF problems with 7D.
Is it a good time to get 7D now or should I still wait for all the problems to be resolved?

Also, any recommendation on where to get the 7D kit for a good price?

my fren got it from australia and there is no problem at all . he is a camera freak... test every single function he knows... conclusion.. maybe u can get the latest set... he gotten the Nov 09 batch... but hving say this... it could be a QC issue.. so logically speaking, maybe Canon's QC have stepped up it's quality control after seeing and hearing all this AF issues on the internet and this make sense why my buddy is extremely happy with his Canon 7D:bsmilie:...esp that he is freak out when he saw the set button, the "SET" wording is upside down....but too bad he can't fly back there to change another set...

Firmware Version 1.1.0 incorporates the following fixes.

Corrects a phenomenon that in images captured by continuous shooting, and under certain conditions, barely noticeable traces of the immediately preceding frame may be visible.
Feel free to spray and pray on those birds now!

As per dpreview.com, it was mentioned that the 7D has an "unreliable white balance under artificial lighting".

Has anyone encountered this problem on the 7D??? I seemed to realise that the AWB tend to be more 'greenish' for indoor lightings. Is it just me, or do you guys notice that too? I need to adjust the WB shift correction everytime I shoot indoors....

Dear All,

And I understand that there are 2 kits for 7D, which kit will you choose if you have to choose from either one? And why?

Also, if on top of the kit, you can purchase a lens of under $800, which lens will you buy and why? Or will you not buy at all?

Is speedlite 580 II good for 7D?

Sorry for the many questions, just trying to learn more.

Appreciate all your helps!

Yo, I got mine with the 15-85mm kit lens. I cannot give you comprehensive feedback because I'm just a hobbyist. But I must say I'm liking this lens. Take a look at the comparison below hope it helps you in making your purchase decision.

For 18-135mm pls forget it. There are lot of discussion abt this useless len.
u may consider the recommendation of battery555 to get 15-85mm.
but for me, i sure will get body only and buy the 17-55mm F2.8.
For 580II is depend how frequent u need to shoot in low light/ indoor (of coz if u got $$ is worth to invest).

Maybe a 7D owner could post some 100% crops? Any takers?

100% cropped @ 800X600. Shot with 24-105 lens.

Tv = 1/500 sec, Av = f/7.1, ISO 100.

Spot AF, Cropped at the AF point.

yes my fren got it in Australia. it's very very fast. He bought at AUD$80 for 8GB.. not sure if it's cheap or ex.

Think a few of us using this card. I have 2 16GBs, used them for 7 days in HKG. No issues.
Prices are similar both in Singapore and Hong Kong.

I got mine 16gb for $189.90 at Sim Lim Square. One of the shops at 3rd floor near escalator. This is my first CF card so cannot benchmark. And yes is UDMA :D

i tried extreme III 30mb/s and 60mb/s UDMA, didnt bench, but i burst it, 30mb/s manage 28 frames b4 slowing down, 60mb/s did 29.

Thanks Lchoong78! Any idea how much is the len you recommended, 17-55mm F2.8?

As for the CF card. If using for normal one shot kind of shooting. Normal Kingston CF 16gb can do the job right? Fast CF card is useful when bursting it for sports kind of shot.... Asking as i have no idea...

Yup fast cf cards are useful to those sport/wildlife photography who requires burst after burst.. and also for recording/video purposes..normal cf cards should do the job for normal everyday shooting

And thanks for the info all! I'm planning to get it at Sitex next weekend!

Hi all,

I just bought the 7D and to put my heart to reassurance, I did a test on the focusing system based on the Focusing Chart and follow the instruction religiously.

Using my 24-105 lens, my setting were set to AI Focus, Spot AF and test the combination range of 24mm, 50mm, 105mm and all the f-stop ranges. Indeed, the focusing is spot-on to where I want it to be (ie. centre of the chart).

HOWEVER, what bugs me is that the lines are sharp behind the focusing point till the 50mm-60mm lines WHEREAS the front of the focusing point is only sharp till the chart's 20mm-30mm lines (and consistently same result).

Pardon my ignorance but should this be normal (cos' I tested on my 500D and the resulting blur is at the same distant). If it's not normal, do you reckon the micro-adjustment will work or there are other fixes to it ?

Thanks in advance !
