It was 20sec. The people weren't moving fast, but they were moving. 20 secs was enough, as long as no one stops to look. Yes, 20sec is not tough.

Sakura at Todaji Temple, Nara. We did not go in as it was already 4:30pm, and the place closes at 5pm.

This was with ND400 filter (about 8.5 stops, 512 would be 9 stops, 256 would be 8 stops).

the title described my feeling when we arrived at Nikko. It was snowing! We were caught totally unprepared - dressing wise and emotionally. I snapped like tons of useless pictures for fear that the snow might stop in the next minute. This was 1 of those that barely worked. This is the view from my hotel room, expensive but very worth it for the view. Loved Nikko, would like to visit again. There are much more to Nikko than the guide books. I would be glad to offer whatever advice to whoever planning a trip there.

Was in Nikko with my family in late April. I can't wait for your Nikko shots.

Thanks for sharing :)

My pleasure gwunwai. Here's another one, hope you like. do critique or give me feedback.

This is Ryuzu Falls, further down (or should I say up) Nikko. This is one of those moments when the sun is behind the clouds. It is friggin cold, dont let this picture fool you. I could hardly concentrate, or think. The snow was falling every now and then too. This is 1 shot that barely made it, again. The coloured version is a goner due to overcast.

As for advice, you drop me a PM on the areas you need any tips, I will be glad to answer. I am not good at following threads hence I had better not jump in to start giving advice without reading what was written before.

For Nikko, what is your itinerary like, that will give a clue as to which pass to get. FYI, I got the All Nikko Pass, although I only used it for 2 days. It was still worth as I know I will be going all the way into Ryuzu area, which will cost 1350 yen 1-way. Again, give me a question so that I know how to advice you.

#48 Cant feel my hands
that's how it felt when i took this shot. unbelievably cold. on the hindsight, there are many potential angles for this scene, but i never did explore cos all i wanted was to get warm. Chuzenji Lake.

#49 bare
the trees along the mountains are all bare, revealing the snow covered slopes. somewhere near Lakeside Hotel, Chuzenji Lake, Nikko.

Mountain range viewed from the comfort of my hotel room. the temperature is about -6 degrees so pardon my laziness for shooting this at a convenient angle. (:

Hill side of Lake Chuzenji. There are so many peaks, I am not sure which one is Mt Nankai.

I didn't like it....lol

hahaha... it took a bit of getting used to. Even if not for the auto wash, the heated seat was a bliss in winter times.

#53 tranquility
My wife an I took a walk along the Kanman no michi trail in Nikko. It started from the visitor center, along the Daiwa River, and then back. It was a very nice and enjoyable walk, but you dont find this in the travel guides. I took a picture of the walking map, anyone going Nikko, I can send it to you.

the bum warming is a saver in the morning after waking up from slumber. Some will have warmed flooring as well.

Hi Ryan, it was not cloud, but they seemed to be burning something near the castle. Given the cold weather, I guess the homeless is burning stuff to keep warm. This is a slow shutter shot to create the motion.

er, the star trail is fake
I added it from 1 of my NZ shot... (shame shame). It just seem apt when I was processing.

Perfect!

Thanks Thomas.

#54 Off center
Had wondered if I should post this in my landscape stream instead as this need not be a japan thread. Anyway, this is the hotel we stayed in Tokyo, Shiodome (pronounced as shi-o-do-mei). It is a rather economical chain, but this is a slightly more expensive location. It was quite worth it. And we could do our own laundry as well.
