[emlee] Mar/Apr 2010 Japan trip

Japan isn't on my list of places to go. So, I just enjoy vicariously through photos posted in this forum.

I must say you've got some really lovely photos. Thoroughly enjoyed them.

There's a saying about Mt. Fuji. "Every man should climb Fuji-san at least once. Only a fool would do it twice" :bsmilie:

I've climbed Mt. Fuji once. I think its enough.

Sorry for the OT.

Please keep the photos coming. I'll be checking this thread often.

nice shot. Love your no. 7 best.

For #11, was this handheld or with tripod. What cam and len was used for no. 7 and 11.

I like your Hakone Yumoto pic.. nice. bring back lot of memories.. was there last Sep but did not have the time to go on the pirate ship.

P/S : the black egg look different but taste like normal hard boiled egg.

Thank you happy dog. haha. thanks for telling me about the black egg.
#7 and #11 are both tripod mounted, slow speed shots. both with high neutral density filter.
#7 was taken at 17mm, while #11 was taken at 200mm.

#14 The Black Pearl
this looks like 1 scene in Pirates of the Carribean, when the Black Pearl enters the smokey horizon and disappears. This is the Pirate cruise ship on Lake Ashi, late afternoon.

Esther, you are too kind. I try to embrace what is "given" to me on trips.

#15 what a view
hee hee. this is the view from the rest area of the hotel I stayed. They are promoting wedding packages for couples to say their vows with Lake Ashi and Mt Fuji in the back drop. How romantic. all spoiled by the fog. Anyone keen? :)

#16 Twilight calm.
Was hopeful to shoot stars at night as Hakone is reasonably remote. but the fog spoiled it all.

Nice pics both #1 and #2:thumbsup:
You were lucky to get a clean shot of white Mt. Fuji against a dark surrounding! Mt. Fuji is really shy and you don't always see it everyday.
#2 is really amazing, the small Torii really stand out!

Thanks Roger. Indeed, that few hours was precious.

#17 Swan Lake
Many self paddle swan boats along the coast of Lake Ashi. These are privately operated. Quite interesting.

#18 edge of the forest
Houses along Hakone Machi, next to the cedar trees.

#19
Osaka City from New Umeda City. It was raining and my camera was wearing a rain jacket. No umbrellas allowed at the roof top, for fear that it might be blown away and hurt someone below.

#20 See-through
Many Osakans riding bicycle and holding see-through umbrellas. I bought 1 back to Singapore.

#21 turn left, turn right
Taken from Shinsaibashi, these "bashi" shopping streets are a lot more interesting that the proper departmental stores.

Greate series. U make me wanna go to Japan!!! :bsmilie:

thanks. you should go especially if you enjoy good food and great service.

#22 RAIN, RAIN AND MORE RAIN
These 3 pictures taken along Shinsaibashi and Dotomburi. The rain was like non-stop, overcast, light. I changed my itinerary due to the weather forecast, else i would be caught in Kyoto with this rain.

#25 Paintings on the wall
finally woke up to a morning with good weather. well worth putting off the Kyoto day trip to a Friday. Went to Tenryu Temple in the morning, the shadow of the budding sakura on the wall looked like chinese paintings.

#26 Red, Yellow, Blue
Bamboo forest (or Grove) at the back of the Tenyru Temple. There is no signboard, so we ended up walking a bit and asking the receptionist of the Temple before locating this. It is also not well documented in tourist guides.

#27
Rickshaw guided tour in the bamboo forest. We could not do this as the guide only spoke in Japanese. It looked comfy.

#28 Magic
to illustrate the use of HD filter, this path is lined with hordes of tourists. but a 30-sec shot rendered them invisible (to the sensor). I have another example later in the trip.

Actually, I would really like to know what you viewers think of #21 (turn left, turn right). It was 1 of my favourite shot on a wet weather, which is rare.

Very nice series so far... You have an eye for nice framing :)
