Hi guys, Just bought the em10 recently, now I am looking out for a fast prime lens. If I want only 1 prime lens(avoid lens change during travel), which focal length should I be looking for? I am interested in both 17mm 1.8 and 25mm 1.8, but more into 17mm but I want to know from you guys that have this lens, is it alot sharper compared to the kit lens, also how does it compare to the other range? is it worth the money? Thanks.

hi,

If its a prime for all , u can also consider the 12/2.
Whenever i travel i only pack 3 lenses : 17/1.8, 12-40/2.8 and 1 UWA (waiting for it to be released ha)

The 17/1.8 definitely gives better performance over the 14-42EZ. the 17's a f1.8 to compare with the kit's f3.5 to f5.6 to start.

Between the 35mm or 50mm FL, i really cannot advise Bro. Its really up to your own shooting preferences and both the 17/1.8 and 25/1.8 are great lenses.

sharper certainly. some 17mm/1.8 and 25mm/1.8 review for you.
for 17mm there's a rebate promo with 45mm so it's more "worth it" now as it's likely cheaper than buy & sell section, meaning you can buy now and decide if you want to sell it later (after the rebate) if you don't like. as for 25mm, really depends on what's worth for u, i use it quite a lot as I like the focal length, so it's worth for me.

Hi, thanks for the reply. Since you have used both, are there much difference in sharpness? The link for 17mm is only a preivew :( I am on a budget so I am looking/waiting for 1 in the buy/sell. Another option is sigma 19mm 2.8 but the reviews aren't as good and f/1.8 is just better (main reason to buy m4/3 is for low light & compactness).

Thanks for the reply. 12mm is good esp for travel and landscape, but when there is a need to get people in the shot it is not very versatile, 1 more thing is that it is too ex(just burn pocket buying cam) haha.

then probably the 17/1.8 :) at its current price point with the cashback u better buy it bro. 35mm generally is versatile enough for landscape and street travel.

I will really consider it, when i get my paycheck this month haha. Anyway anyone tried the 20mm 1.7 MkII panasonic lens?

25/1.8 is sharper but they are very different focal length to begin with. using your kit lens at 17 & at 25, which is better for you? still can't decide, means either one will fit your requirement. 17 preview (I tested) or review (I own) are not much diff optically.

20/1.7 II is a bit slower to AF than 17/25. Optically it's very good though and it's pancake. you probably will get more chroma aberrations (purple fringing) than oly lenses as they are corrected in body by EM10.

Optically 17/25/20 are all good and pleasing. But in comparison AF speed for the 20 will definitely lag behind both the 17 and 25. Both 20mm Mark 1 and Mark 2 versions have the same focusing speed.

As Wong shared, remember that correction isn't done when using a Panasonic lens on the Oly body.

hello guys, sorry i am a newbie photography enthusiast who is not an expert. i have had the the panasonic gf3 for a very long time and together it has a 20mm pancake lens and a zoom lens. i'm not sure if it's a good idea to upgrade the camera body to this em10? i wanna learn how to take better shots. is this a good upgrade? thks in advance

Save the money to go for lessons instead, having a newer camera will not give you better, if anything, it gives you better photos (in technical quality aspects) and makes it easier to capture photos

Hi guys, I have a dumb question. DO you guys have a carrying pouch/case for your camera? If yes what would you recommend? I am not looking to have a specific bag for the camera alone, I hope to place it in my existing bag but afraid of it getting scratched by other items. Thanks.

Maybe u can consider a proper camera inset like the Crumpler Haven. It does protect the camera against knocks and bumps too.
