Efficiency of our trains?

Until you have been pushed in and squeezed, I wouldn't say it is funny. It's a fact of life there. During the day, more than 2 million people comes into the Tokyo area. When I was living there, I could let my briefcase go and the darn case wouldn't drop cos there's simply no room to even scratch your butt!.

I'm sure Singapore will one day reach this point when the population reaches more than 7 million people.

The day will come when Singapore has 6 millions poupulation.

WEll i hope sg wont be like this with more trains, i have heard they are adding in more. in the peak hours esp from the sides of sg to the central area, its quite bad already, but still managable to scratch your butt, Sgs public transport is very efficient, esp the bus serivce , most of the time, its on time and consistent, some other countires, the bus come and go as they want.. !got to buy yoursewlf a car/bike.

SMRT start to have these people too but they dont push that hard.
Initially they have in AMK & Bishan but now I dont see anymore.
They still have in Bishan, during morning peak hour.
They also wear white gloves

Not really, I was using a few of the europe train services in a few european countries for sometime. As comparison, Singapore can learn from them some areas where they can improve their services.

The air conditioner can sure be turned up a bit. Especially when the train is above ground. And for Pete's sake, somehow compel those low life who insist on rushing into the cars before alighting passengers can get off. ;(

I wonder how many of those who kept praising the Japan, Hong Kong, Taiwan Rapid Transit system actually rode on the Paris Metro or New York City Subway, a total nightmare IMHO. :bsmilie:

to be fair, the paris metro is not too bad.. the rer can be quite scary though.

maybe the people who like the new york subway think it is natural landscaping, first world train service :bsmilie:

I actually had a good experience riding the NYC subway. Friendly passengers who helped me and a few co-workers find our way to our destination.

Cars were old, but quite clean and didn't smell.

The BART in San Francisco is slightly worse, but passable.

Question: When you the train/tube/underground/mtr overseas, do you actually ride it during peak hours, or between 10-12 and 2-4 and 8-midnite? If yes, then these are not peak hours so you can't tell the difference.

I have. But only in winter so quite ok, I heard it smell really bad in summer (and hot too)!
And I took the wrong entrance and end up going to broklyn instead of manhannta. I was like uh why... something is wrong, there are more and more people coming in with baggy pants and hiphop and hoodies ... and less and less suits. I quickly check and wahlao, took wrong side. :sweat:
Quickly exit at the next station and change direction, and got laughed at when I arrived in office late. Memorable experience :bsmilie:

I got ride one for NY before at peak hour cos it is too difficult to get taxi form hotel to office. Quite crowded I guess it is similar to singapore.

Every single time I alight at a subterranean station in Singapore, I will always take a deep breath of the heavenly industrial smell from the tunnel. Quirk of mine I suppose. :bsmilie:

Agreed about grab poles and handles. Hate to play 'balancing act' when tired and just trying to get home.
