Thank you for the advise!!

mpenza said:btw, the problem is due to perspective distortion (which is because of the closeness and the wide angle), rather than the lens inherent distortion (which is due to design). so, using the 10mm to take very large group of people further away will have less perspective distortion effect compared to using the 10mm end to take small group of people nearby.
Any other similar wide-angle lens used in the same manner will give u similar distorted perspective. But if another lens (with worse off inherent distortion) is used, it'll make the pic even worse (i.e. perspective+inherent distortion combined).

Snoweagle said:Yes pal, renting it for the day only. Guess i'll just be using this lens only cos must fully utilise it, coupled with my DIY bounce card with 420EX flash (cos 420EX can't go as wide as 17mm so hope my DIY bounce card helps).

10-22 is OK but distortion on peoples faces at the edges is disconcerting to me.
toiletliterature said:Hey guys, i'm also debating between the 2 lenses here. I would think i am using the wides for travel photography and alot of street stuff. I am torn cause i dunno whether to get the 10-22 for the lovely perspective of the ultra wide end (see http://www.pbase.com/drhangar/photo_a_day) or the better range of the 17-40. What is the other problem is that one is an EF-S lens and its not weather sealed? So what do you guys say? I can only get one... =(
jus said:Have you tried the 10-22?? if so can give some comment of wat you think after testing it??
Thanks!
jus said:Hi thanks to all who replied. I'm holding a 350D+kit lens+24-105f4 now.
I'm looking for a wide angle lens. Thats why i come up with this 2, as a lot of the forumers here had comment that the EF-s 10-22 is a great lens and the distortion is well under control.
I have played with my friend's 17-40 but have not touch the 10-22 yet. Thats why i wanna seek more opinion from you guys here which is more suitable lens for dinner events.
