I think not either for the IS USM version...compare it with the EF 70-300mm non IS non USM coz its ard that price and performance.

Hi

Anyone know is this lens is still available in any of the shops?

I went to Cathy Photo in Peninsular but they are sold out and they have no idea when the stock is coming in...

seems like a very popular lens indeed..

i bought mine at OP at $360 on 15/12/07...

I'm thinking of getting the EF 50/1.8 II for portraits.

Though the 55-250 has totally different usage purposes from the prime, I was wondering if this takes good portraits. How is the subject isolation with background blur with this lens? Obviously don't expect great subject isolation at f4 but hoping for some background blur with the slight tele length. Also looking at IQ.

Anybody with an opinion? Picture examples will help, too.

Anyone knows whats the minimum focusing distance for this lens?

i wonder if shooting at 55mm at 1.1mm working distance, will it create good bokehs with this lens?

Good bokehs also depend on the distance of the subject from the background; in theory the best is to have a large aperture, telezoomed to the subject, with the background far from the subject. That being said, this 55-250 IS's f5.6 should do the job well enough, provided you used telezoom, and the background is far.

thanks for the link the bokeh seems decent. comparing to reviews i read about 18-200sigma with os.

Can't wait to get my hands on the EFS55-250 f/4-5.6 IS and the EFS 18-55 f/4-5.6 IS combo :)
Though I have other lenses that serve the same range... I think this two will make a wonderful pairing for holiday outing and oversea trips when ones wants to travel light yet doesn't wants to compromise on the range available.

Anyone knows what price is the EFS 18-55 IS selling at ?

Bought my EF-S 18-55mm IS at John 3:16 for $280. But they are now out of stock. :D

are they open today? I've placed an order for 55-250 (scheduled to arrive last night) but they have yet to sms/call me today.
