Not everytime you can move back.... That's for sure.... and why I prefer 35mm fov... though it is not perfect either....

ya thats why i say i don't find myself in those situations.. cos i'm a guy that likes to be outdoor more than indoor.. so i don't find it a constraint as much as others... which is why i'm happy with it..

Well... as long as it suits you... for me.... I think I more indoor, so I have a preference for more shorter range..... ;)

17-55mm is good for portrait.... at F2.8... it is pretty sharp wide open....

I had a debate on lens too myself, as I found I become pretty much more prime... and I concluded that I will have F4L Zoom and supplement it with Primes..... but I do not go L primes... but compact primes... like the F24 F2.8, F35 F2.....

If you going for portraits, I think your 50mm F1.4 is the best for this..... But if you need to take group... 24 F2.8 is another option... as it give you 35mm FOV... and this is my personal favorite.... so not sure if this is ok for you....

If you intent to get 28 F1.8, then, go for it.....

Well... Canon marketing works very well.... and that's we are all suckered in by them to BBBBBBB............ :bsmilie:

24 F2.8 will not be necessary if I am getting 17-55 F2.8, so the 28mm F1.8 will make more senses. Anyway I think I will go with the 17-55 F2.8 because I will be exploring video capturing on 60D and IS is a good feature for it.....then F2.8 can allow me to do some arty farty stuffs.....;)

This is a painful purchase, save so long then suddenly showhand!!! Wonder can submit my name to Canon to ban me from buying in the future....just like the practice in casinos @ IRs.....:bsmilie:

A good decision! The 17-55 f/2.8 IS will not let you down. It is a very good lens!

Just to follow up with my findings after getting the 60D paired with the 17-55 F2.8

60D + EF-S 17-55 F2.8
VS
400D + EF-S 17-55 F2.8

The difference in focusing speed is marginal and can be equally fast when the lighting condition is good. Under low light, the 400D will tend to search more. When using the 9AF points on 60D, focusing tend to slow down slightly as it maybe hunting for a general focus. The single center AF spot is fast with focusing.

EF-S 17-55 F2.8 is generally a very good lens that provides speed with good IQ. If this is designed for FF, I think it should belong to the L series.

Bro... where you get your cam and lens??? What was your cost??? :)

Bro... where you get your cam and lens??? What was your cost??? :)

I got it from Alan Photo @ Funan, body is $1418 and the lens is $1550
Initially I was thinking of going to Cathay to buy the body via installment, difference will be $65 from Cash Payment. Then my wife just ask me to empty my pocket and pay full, no point paying installment when I have to full sum available to pay. But now....I am having a very empty pocket and feeling so insecure about it....looking forward to my pay day!!!

I went to Cathay before Alan, the sales reps give different pricing....if you want to try cathay, better ask for E-Quote 1st to get the best price. I got an E-quote from them but forgotten to bring, so hard to negotiate and they mark up another $50+. So I just walk away....

At Alan, I was entertained by a Mr Cool who was thinking that I am just doing window shopping so not willing to let me test the lens on the 60D body....a bit pissed lah. Then after hearing the price is right for me, I just tell him that I will get the body and lens...then the service was slightly better and willing to answer my questions about equipments.....

I think some CSers did mentioned about this Mr Cool before...

What you want to achieve? You have to know....

Even in life, you will need to define your ambition before selecting the right course right?
Think properly.....buying for skill, needs or desire?

A lot of bro here have already given you feedbacks, but seem like you still cannot decide...

So I suggest that you should just stick to what you have and shoot more till you know what to buy......

I have not gone to Cathy website for a while... time to disturb them... their prices are not really competitive... but if use installment, their competitiveness is there... One thing I like is CP have good service, and the shop is bright and you can test the lens properly....

Mr Cool.... I thought AP was not a good shop to buy from??? Anyway... I think it is ok, as long as you get a good deal....

So now, the hunt for camera is over... the hunt for subjects has just began!!!! ;p
