i think no matter whether the lens is weathersealed or not, i will still run for cover when it rains. better be safe than sorry
True. But the thought that your lens is weather sealed helps to somewhat assure you you'd be fine. :bsmilie:

I remember we were in Bakheng Hill in Siem Reap hoping against hope for a beautiful sunset when we spotted incoming rain. We rushed downhill but halfway through the rain poured on us (there was no place for cover). Unfortunately we left our bags in the van so we and our gears got a fair bit of sprinkling. And to make things worse, when we reached downhill we had problem locating our van so we had to take shelter underneath a tree that's barely enough for us :bsmilie:

The 24-105 lens -- and the 40D -- survived. And still do til this day. :)

:Later,

I am glad that your story ended well. I have read about so many others, seemingly less threatening than yours, that did not end well. I know someone who walked in the rain with his hand phone in his pocket. His pants got wet and when he reached home, he tried to make a call on his cell. The hand phone was completely dead. He had no choice but to buy another.
