E510 rumour II

I this is my humble solution for my old trusty E300.

I made a plastic frame and mounted a mirror same size as the LCD lens. The mounting is at the mid distance of each side (left and right) of the LCD. So the mirror can swivel both ways for overhead and low level shots.

There's a product that will add a live view swivel monitor to ANY SLR on the market (including FILM SLRs), the Zigview S2:
http://www.zigview.co.uk/S2.htm

It doesn't list Olympus, but the Oly viewfinder has a similar mount to some Nikons...only thing I can't remember which right now (before the ME-1 I was looking for a better eyecup for the E-300, and I was reading about how a certain Nikon eyecup works on the E-300...I've since forgotten that info).

I have the earlier version of zigview which I bought to used with my s3pro. It is VERY TROUBLESOME to use. First, you cannot leave the thing permanantly mounted on the camera as
1) you lose the optical viewfinder
2) it is VERY hard to store it and the joing is very weak. Mine broke.

So you have to keep mounted and unmounting.... and the joint is very weak and it broke after a few usage.

Thanks for sharing your experience with the product.

Its not rocket science and it works
That is a solution I also mentioned in another post regarding E-410/510 LV. I still think it is a shame that Oly = DIY engineering. I find it fun, I am an egineer for real also, but I would more like a complete solution. While the mirror works for ladnscape OR portrait orientation, depending on which way you would make it, in my opinion it is only useful in studio. You loose the optical VF, since you could not quickly and easily remove and store it when you want to use the optical VF. There is no natural way for attachments on the body, so it must be glued or welcroed somehow. The mirror is getting in the way when you want to look in the optical VF, so the mirror must be removed and stored when not needed. Makes it far too complicated.

BTW, what did you use the mirror on an E-300 for? It does not have LV so...:dunno:

may is coming to an end and still no e510... ... ...

Hope the latest news on the metering problem won't delay the whole E- line.

It's already available for sale to the public in Australia. People their have been posting their E510 images on dpreview.

one more week before my trip...... the deciding factor whether i am going for the 510 or wait and see how e-1 replacement would turn out.

I got an interesting flyer from HK with prices.
I can't add the image to this directly coz there is no such feature here.

E-410 HK$5980 basic kit (~S$1200)
E-510 HK$6780 basic kit (~S$1356)

comes with 4 cheapo freebies not worth detailing (e.g. parker pen...)

SP-550UZ HK$4080 (~$800)

This place was like a best denki kind of store, so should be SRP.
Stock status - did not ask.

I personally handled the E-410 in Japan (100,000 yen), unfortunately did not like the flat right hand body grip. E-510 was not out in Japan yet.
I'd say go for the E-510 over the E-410, that is if you are going for an Oly.
And do stay away from Oly PnS, I can't tolerate mine...

I have not checked stock availability or price in .sg cos just got back.
No fighting now...
Cheers

The E-510 has just been advertised in today's Straits Times at $1,499 and comes with a 2G CF card. So that would mean that it is now available for sale in Singapore, right?

Buy, buy, buy... :vhappy:

unfortunately, not on the shelves yet:( CP, MS and Lords all dun have...already called to find out.

anyone seen it at other shops?

I keep seeing the E-510s everywhere, even in Funan. So the sale of E-510 vindicates smallpeak's prediction about a mid-month availability and others who have now begun to sing a different tune.

Also, I keep *NOT* seeing the Leica 25/45mm lenses which to me, may be a contributor to Oly's long-term viability.

Was not very difficult to "predict" since it was on Oly web. It did say "June 2007" for a long time, so "predicting" mid June can only be a few days off if it is wrong.

I think this thread not much purpose already, by now... ;p
