"Even more eye opening than the picture the camera took it".

E-510, part of the E-System. The first and only consumer DSLR series with Live View. A real time LCD screen that lets you keep your eye on the action, not on a viewfinder.

E-510. getolympus.com

The ad is out on Digital ProPhoto May/June 2007 issue. No idea what the hell the copyrighter was trying to say, but hey, something interesting here... suggesting a slightly different Live View for the production model??

Someone must have copied it wrong...on the http://getolympus.com website it says:

"The E-510 is one of the first consumer D-SLRs with Live View, so you can keep your eyes on the action, not on a viewfinder.

Someone be kind and update the web master on it.

The list of LV cameras should include the Canon M3 then the E-410. only then the E-510 would follow. That means the concept is not new to the E-510.

E410 is cute, I hope there is E420 who use 420 body, but get IS function...:)

Can the E510 flip out the LCD for Live View? or is it fixed?

i think the E4xx series is too small to fit in an IS module. if can be done, there's always an ON/OFF switch to conserve power when the need arises. :D

lets juz wait and see if the rumours r true... 2 more weeks to go.

The LCD on the 510 is same as the one on the 410.

As technology progresses modules will get smaller, electronics will use less power.

The key as we move forward is ergonomics.

Yup, "one of the first" hardly means "the first and only"! :bsmilie:

You can hardly call it "one of the first." It's about 1 year late and 6 dSLR behind.

They probably mean in a consumer price range...the only ones I can think of is the E-410, E-510 and E-330. The E-10, E-20, L1, Digilux 3, and 1dmkIII are over the $1000 USD pricepoint (when they first came out on the market).

Now compared to all the dSLR cameras on the market, even seven is considered "a few" but three is for sure "a few".

As far as ergonomics are concerned the E-330 LV display is the only one that is good. Both the E-410 and E-510 is a camera for DIY ppl like myself. I would only have those cameras for a few hours before a mirror box was made to enable use of LV on tripod for portraits, macros and landscapes. For a comfortable view, I think the ability to look down is necessary. I think it is a shame that Oly introduced LV and goes from the well proven solution of E-330 to the fixed display of the new bodies. Please, don't say it, I know it is all about money, but again, I have problems to believe a few bucks difference would be a problem for dSLR buyers.

I have a serious problem about the fixed LV screen thing. Very serious problem with it.

Thing is, as a photojournalist, having an articulated screen means I can shoot overhead without the need to use ladders (ladder gang, you HAVE an alternative!) or shoot really nice waist level images without having to kneel or get into uncomfortable positions... but that is gone after E-330... what were the engineers thinking??

Well, someone might start designing a third party solution soon I believe. But until that is out, the new Pro Body is something that I am looking forward to. Because of the articulated screen. It is very very important to have that function.

Yes, the 330 had the best LV. IMO, the 410 and 510 LV is more like a P&S than what I would expect from a dSLR of otherwise pro or at least very high quality. It is too bad that DIY ppl or third party manufacturers of camera accessories must solve such a trivial question. Once again, like in the case of the lack of tetered remote for the E-500, Oly comes with a half solution and just throws away a well proven thing like the E-330 display. Unless we are in for a surprise regarding the E-x. But again, personally, if I am ready to pay the price of E-510 I would also be ready to pay just a bit more to have the possibility to use grip, which I personally don't miss and would not buy anyway, and for a display similar to that of the E-330 had, which is THE way LV should be. The only improvement to that I can think of is to make it detachable. Imagine that...

Oly should not employ engineers, economoical and market people who are not interested in photography. Too bad they didn't listen to our words once again.

nice to see so many "leaks" hahaha...!! looking good i must say.

I this is my humble solution for my old trusty E300.

I made a plastic frame and mounted a mirror same size as the LCD lens. The mounting is at the mid distance of each side (left and right) of the LCD. So the mirror can swivel both ways for overhead and low level shots.

Its not rocket science and it works
