I like the way SJ frame the answer to the AF question :"Feel free to 'presume' the AF is a bit faster. I'm off to presume that pigs can fly." Lol.

Look like you guys had fun!

And now for the million dollar question - Does the E-P2 focuses faster than the E-P1? :)

u dun have to worry focusing, just buy it

If it's S$1.5K with the zoom lens, it'll be very hard to resist.

Yah and they were scratching their heads as to where the number came from!

But if Olympus Malaysia confirms it to be that price, I can't see Olympus Singapore being far from it.

The guy from dpreview is joke. How can he have "used" a prototype and make judgements? I am amazed... Maybe dpreview is now developing production firmware for Olympus. :dunno:

even if a bit of improvement in AF still consider slow. If the AF is fast, ppl will straight said fast, no need give impression of a bit kind of measurement. So ppl who go for E-P1 or E-P2 are not targeting the AF performance for sure. Oly good point is still on more lens compatibility compare with competitor.

as for Prototype, if AF is indeed one of the feature of improvement in E-P2, Oly sure will build on the prototype to show off the "new". Apparently not in this case. I also dont think the final will do.

The Olympus rep (Antonio?) made it clear that the E-P series was not design for sports photography AND that the focusing speed can be improved with firmware upgrades and that the lens has a significant impact on AF speed as well. I do remember reading that the E-P1 had improved AF speed when used to Panasonic lenses. If you want super fast AF, you still have to go to the DSLRs. It will get there some there but that day is not today.

I tried out the prototypes C-AF mode last night and it is rather impressive. In the dim lighting of TCC, it was able to track my finger moving in front of it pretty well.

Also, different people have different requirements for AF speed. The E-P1/2 for me will be a second body with a fast prime or an UWA lens on it and for those purpose, the AF speed is sufficient for my use.

Oh so u were the one who is sitting on the left hand side taking pics of the lens-caps. I am the guy who asked you for the camera to try.:)

oic! nice meeting u last night! :)

yes, I guess we need to have clear expectations what we intend to use it for and do fair comparison.

if want to compare AF speed, maybe should compare EP-1/EP-2 AF speed with DSLR AF speed in Liveview mode?

btw, I don't work for any m4/3 company. :bsmilie:

True... it is not logic to compare AF of m4/3 with dslr.

I would say the AF considered fast enough for dim lighting condition at TCC

well a G1 is also m4/3 and it focus as fast as an entry level dslr such as d40, d60, d80 but never expect it to out perform those $3,000 dslr. just like you do not compare a d300 with a m9 which is impossible to beat.

i come from a die hard nikon fan but alas the lens prices are killing me especially the wide angle ones. initially i wanted to try 4/3 but when the G1 came out i decided to go for it and i have to admit although it is not very conventional, it is fun to take pictures with and iA is very good. bought it immediately and when the m4/3 wide angle lens price is out, it is very cheap compared to what nikon sells. never looked back then.

Apart from firmware, will E-P1 get the 2 new art filters as well? Thanks.

maybe then should compare AF speed of GF1 and EP1/EP2 with the same lens. It was mentioned during the session that AF would improve with faster lens. IIRC, someone did mention in this forum that AF speed is faster with the use of Lumix 20F1.7 on EP1?

Microcosm, I thought you mentioned that the AF is the same as E-P1 is another thread?
Unfortunately, the AF is still the same. If your kids are hyper, then it might be back to DSLRs to solve that issue. Or go manual.

I did... but it is amazing how they can be so sure of something that might be changed... (meaning, there is always a chance that if someone in Olympus software dev dept strike gold and come out with new methods to improve AF through software, it might be included in the final production firmware).

Even the guys in Olympus cannot be firmed on some things, how can someone not from the company confirm things? That is what makes me wonder.

can the Panny EVF be used on the EP-2 and the Oly EVF be used on the GF-1?
