Last week bought a silver body single lens from photopro at T1. $1676 only.
The price is so attractive. Now have black and sliver. One for my wife and one for me.
Selling 1776 with extra Singaporean 5% discount. So total 1676.

hi there, silly question here, can PRs get this price?

It seems that the face tracking isn't 100% accurate, and neither does it work well when the face is small relative to the image.

This is annoying. The focus spot selection algorithms are sketchy and sometimes inconsistent enough. I sure hope Olympus works out a better algorithm. It may be fast, but all that speed is useless if the AF focus selection is near retarded. Limiting the focus area does help somewhat but for some obscene reason or another, it doesn't always select the face!

This can actually be fixed via a firmware update. However Olympus may decide to reserve it as an upgrade for a future camera. Let's hope Olympus is as generous to the E-M5 as Canon is to the EOS 7D.

The simplest solution at the moment seems to be selecting the focus point deliberately but that reduces the speed of operation of the camera. Heck, even focusing with the rangefinder would be faster then.

Hi guys,

Is it normal to see color fringing on the LCD previews and yet they are fine when viewed in a computer? Wondering if there's a way to make the display more accurate.

I *just* got this email from B&H.
Seriously? Their stocks arrived so late?!?!?!?

It's now 7 August! I got my Silver OM-D in April!

Not surprising. Camera manufacturers usually ship to Asia first then Europe then the USA.

That is for the BODY only, which is also hard to get in SIngapore now

Ah, ok. That explains it.
Shows how desperate I was then, I had put my name in everyone's mailing list. ;)

Lucky I didn't wait for B&H or Amazon US.

Yes they do. :)

the following is my findings after a 5 days consecutive run with the OM-D E-M5. note that i'm coming from a DSLR perspective as i do own a 7D too.

pros:
-lightweight
-unobtrusive
-tilty swively screen is very useful for walkabout
-EVF provides real time rendition of the scene, very useful for judging exposure
-touch focus brings new life into my photography

cons:
-wake up to press shutter time could be faster as there were numerous times when the EVF was not ready when i brought the camera up to my eye
-EVF blackout lag time could be reduced(same case as the point mentioned above)
-when using the tilted screen, my finger kept going within the range of the eye sensor, causing the OLED screen to blackout
-still have some menu diving to do
-battery life, seriously wish it could at least go 2x longer

i know my finding is kinda unfair to the E-M5 but hey, this is part and parcel of my user experience. :)

PS: i'm on the latest firmware v1.2

Frankly, most of your problems could be solved by just turning off the auto EVF-sensor.
Just use it manually, that's what I do.

But I agree, battery life is quite short, I always have a spare ready.
And the menus are incredibly hard to understand! Lucky now that more people own the camera, you can Google to find out more. When I first bought it and was an early adopter, really catch no balls.

sure, i can use it manually but when i'm not taking photos, the EVF will still be functioning which in turn will drain battery life.

OMD's battery is so sorted after. i went around many shops but all OOS. i went to taiwan to buy, also no stocks. Olympus should seriously use some initiative to push out their accessories more efficiently.

as for menu wise, i'm still exploring, so many sub-menus and sub-sub-menus, really takes a lot of time to understand the menu system.

Menu, yes ... A lot of menus. But i like it. Funny isnt it? Perhaps i m not one of those who lose apple's simple menu, but rather the complex type.

My only complain is the rather short battery life. 320-350 shots per charge is not enough. 500 would be great.
Perhaps olympus should allow us to turn off both evf and oled screen to save some battery. I now set my sleep timer to 1 minute to save that little bit more battery.

Time lag between evf and actual shutter release, i thought the shutter released correctly, but evf shows a little more when shutter was pressed. To me its not an issue.

MF.... Adding focus peaking will be great! Wish firmware 2.0 will give us focus peaking, solve the banding issues, and allow us to use ISO100, and do away with ISO 25,600. Maybe also add self diagnostic in the menu, and shutter count number.

ah, i also notice the 'EVF showing a little more' problem, not an issue to me too.

focusing peaking, ISO100, solving the banding issue, i think you have pin-pointed the much wanted stuffs in our minds, esp the banding issue. focusing peaking itself will aid greatly in manual focusing and ISO100 will give one more stop of advantage to landscapes shooter.

Olympus, are you listening eh?

Better post this straight to their fb

Anyone knows how you can shoot and RAW and jpeg at the same time?

I got mine straight off from River Valley. They have a few left if i can remember.

As for the menus, i only have to dive for WB. The ISO is all done in cam! Depends on usage la i guess
