I strongly suspect during update, olympus is uploading user preference data from camera to backup. Then after update, download the user data back to camera.
Uploading speed for most people (except those on fibre) are slow, hence it was slow with blank screen for some.
Those whose update was fast probably had fibre or highspeed upload.

Just a theory of this possibility.

Nope the software didn't upload anything after downloaded the firmware. I know because I watched my network and camera while nervously waiting the "OK" sign.

Ok. That means download of firmware is slow.

Did you have to pay for the reloading of firmware?

Full battery is a pre-requisite for firmware update, as stated when you launched the Olympus Digital Camera Updater (ODCU).
Also, to note when updating is... it must be connected DIRECTLY to the USB socket of your PC, and not via USB hub.
If update from desktop PC, to prevent bricking the camera during update due to power trip/failure, it is good to have UPS for your PC. Or better still update from laptop (with battery power + external power).

FOC. No charge.

I think download into camera is slow.
I use Mac for update. Take about 3-5 mins for my black set. But silver one take longer and black out. Should wait for longer and need some indication for the software during update.

Did you push it all the way in and secure it tight on the hotshoe?

Happen to me on my first attempt, no flash. But subsequently ok after ensuring that it is firmly locked to the hotshoe.

Been using the combo with no issue, even off-camera, since day 1.

Good luck.

I used the nissin flash on my omd with no problems.

Yah i push to the limit already then lock it down, it did detect the flash for a short time but after awhile my OMD cannot detect the flash, My OMD worked fine with the small flash that come with and my Nissin work well with my Lumix GX1 very easy just attach and fire away.... hmmmm.... I can lock the flash to my OMD means its all the way in already right? Thank you very much for your reply and advise

Strange, but I really have no issue with this combo at all.

Being able to lock, or screw, or tighten the Flash to the Hotshoe does not necessarily mean that it is in place. It have to be pushed all the way in so the metal contacts on the Camera and Flash are aligned.

I am not sure if this would help, but you could also clean the Flash's metal contact points with a camera cloth and re-attach it to the camera again and see if it'll work. Or, alternatively, you could also replace a set of fresh batteries on the Flash and try again.

Good luck.

is there a way to assign ISO function to button Fn1?

Did not bother to read everything, 30 pages is a lot.

From the last few threads, It would be nice of oly to add a status bar for the update process. From what I understand, the new firmware is downloaded before the update is done. So If we are short of time or if there is some fault in the download process, we can abort the update process. But then, that would open the firmware for hacking, which Oly does not want.

May I know what is B fn1? Cannot find a B button?? And the L button?

L-fn is the one on the 12-50mm lens. B-fn is on the PBH
