i spent quite a while but whenever i half press shutter the magnification goes off before it AF.. anyone can help me? :(

Setting it to MF would keep it magnified even after half pressing. However when set if saf+mf, half pressing would move away from magnification, its just how it works.

Another observation.

This camera really takes advantage of the UHS-1 class cards. Its actually the first time I felt card was slow enough to get in the way of a camera's quickness.

but on my previous OMD(Which i sold), i had it working in magnification mode in s-af even during half pressed :\ :(

Its "LV close up mode" setting. Mode 2 magnification stays, mode 1 doesn't.

thank you bro, you're awesome! (i'm dumb, lol) :D

No lah bro, my friend ask me other day, I also dunno so I check and found it:)

i think v. subjective.. their jpeg is very gd, thou not v. accurate currents, but their film settings are impressive.
omd i feel personally the color is more neutral, and do more sharpening somehow?

raw wise... you can compare their red color.. make a big difference on the same thing. (with my eyes)

I second that, I have also compared EPL1 jpeg color to a certain FF camera with someone from the same tour group, the comparison was obvious, that FF color was washed out and mine was rich and vibrant closest to what your eyes will see.

no i sold the black and 25mm...
total damage for transiting to the 12mm + b+w chrome filter + silver body... $70!... but i shall comfort myself my shutter count is back to 30...
so enough of all the looks, time to shoot nice pictures for my upcoming june holiday trip! :D

hi irvinl,
I have silver OMD and 12+45mm, and thinking of getting the PL25, may i know why did you sell the PL25, how is the IQ compared to 12mm or 45mm if you have it?
Thanks.

hi bro, i sold it cause i couldn't afford 2 at the same time. and i'm not really liking the bulk and "dust attracting" focus ring. but the bokeh and colour rendering is amazing. despite slightly faster af than the 20mm, i still prefer 20mm in terms of sharpness and compactness.
12mm is not v. sharp, but it gives amazing image doesn't it, even when crop it abit. its the ONLY wide angle at f2, its a character len. and it never missed a shot for me on the OMD. i loved it.

but much said, f1.4, the brightness, colour, much better bokeh(if you really need it). thats the len:)
just be prepared with weird noises and v. choppy shutter sound(i don't know why when it shoots above F2.8 the shutter is makes much sound)
and also when you aim at the bright lights or something, it gives the 1-2sec rattlesnake sound.
but.... who cares, the IQ rocks. many people are in it! :D

oh my...no offense, i can't accept the different silver colors btw the lens & body...its really a poor fit...不三不四feeling! hahaha...this is just my 'anal' point of view from my profession

Thanks for the quick reply bro Irvinl, i agree with you for PL25, i have some concerns on the bulk/focus ring dust magnet/rattlesnake issues; despite the nice IQ it gives.
Maybe i just stay with 12/45 for now and add 12-35 f2.8 later. The 12mm is very good for me, sharpness is ok, and shallow depth of field on wide angle is quite interesting.
Thanks again bro!

yea. you should! wanna get, get the best :)

If you are getting the 25/1.4, you are getting it for the bokeh and relative less distortion which you otherwise get with the 20/1.7. I think the 20/1.7 was designed in mind for absolute sharpness and easily correctable distortion in software, whereas the 25/1.4 was designed for less distortion and in turn better bokeh and there was some sharpness loss.

The 20/1.7 bokeh is quite sucky really.

i think the silver craze is really getting crazy... people buying and selling within a day!
should have sat back and waited :\

i can image those who bought at 1780 be thinking now.

Hehe, I still prefer the black one, especially with the 12mm! Two colors are enough for me. The golden 12mm on the silver body is just too much, the three colors don't go well.

Hi, dereth,
This camera is so new that I would not intentionally submerge it in water or splash water on it to test this. Didn't they put a bucket of water at the Hands On Session at Oly for you all to test this?
I would want to know if the system is still weather-proof if I attach the given small flash that is part of the E-M5 package? It's really a hassle to mount and take out the flash. There are too many small parts to dismantle and I'm sure some will get lost in the field of action. Thinking of putting the flash on permanently though I don't use flash that often now that we have fast lenses.

Hi all, I just came back from Phuket last week where I brought the EM5. Sad to say it did NOT survive a medium shower in the afternoon and the camera has died from water damage from rain. Olympus said the damage was extensive and comment that that kind of damage can only happen if the camera has been submerged in water. It has not submerged it in water. I am very disappointed that it did not even survive a medium shower with the "weather proof lens 12-50mm" attached with a filter in front of it. Flash was not mounted. and the flash cover and the accessory port was covered.

For those who are interested, the repairs are quoted in the range of $7xx. I am just extremely disappointed that the camera though marketed to be weather sealed, but wasn't able to survive a simple shower. I did check the seals around the lens to see if it might be any particles that got stuck on the rubber ring and allowed water in but found nothing.

Unfortunately I did not test the camera in any shower with the flash hotshoe attached. Hopefully someone else doesn't find out the hard way.

I have used Nikon D70, D2H, Canon 350D, Nikon D3, D700, D7000 in rain without so called weather-proof lenses. The lighter-weight cameras in light rain for hours on end, no issues. However with this weather-sealed camera using weather sealed lens, it died on the 2nd exposure to rain. Luck? Fate?

Either way, you have been warned. Just treat your camera with more care and don't let "weather-sealed" on the specification sheet lull you into exposing the camera to rain or splashes of water.

Just a reminder Olympus servicing is not cheap my friend consumer grade lens was recently send in for fixing. Was quoted 2xxsgd for aperture blade replacement , he a careful user and there no user mark n no sign of abuse on the lens either
