I have just puchased a Dynax 7 and using it with 28-105 xi len and 3500xi flash. When I am taking photo with flash (build in flash or 3500xi) at 28mm, my photo 4 corners are black out(vignetting). Have tried using another len (24-80) with 3600HS at 28mm and the result is the same. Also tried bouncing the flash off the ceiling but still have vignetting.

Subject is about 6 -7 fts aways & no len hood.

Can any one kindly give me some idea to solve this issue. Is this a problem of the lens, flash, body or combination of it.

Thanks in advance.

Hi there....

Looks like you have a front directional powerful flash that needs....a diffuser....maybe the omnibounce. I experimented my d7 with the 3600hs with and without the diffuser at 24-50mm....and if without diffuser......you will get the problem you mentioned at wide blow 28mm......if the subject is close......

try a diffuser...

If you are shooting photos in portrait mode, but the flash is in landscape position, you could possibly have problems with the flash providing proper "angle of flash coverage".

A non-zoomable flash has a fixed "angle of flash coverage"; whereas, a zoomable flash has different "angle of flash coverages" for different focal lengths.

Your camera's manual should tell you the "angle of flash coverage" for the built-in flash. If the camera is in portrait position, the built-in flash will automatically be in portrait position; however, the built-in flash may not be providing enough "angle of flash coverage" at 28mm.

The manual for your 3500xi flash unit may tell you the "angle of flash coverage" for various zoom settings. It should tell you the horizontal and vertical angle of flash coverage; however, unless you know the "field of view" at 28mm, this information will not be of much use to you. Since the 3500xi has a 28mm setting, you need to verify the flash setting is at 28mm.

Some flash units have a wide angle flash adapter, and your 3500xi manual should indicate if such an adapter is available for wide focal lengths.

If you don't have a manual for your flash, you should be able to download it from Minolta's web site.

If you are not having the same problem without flash, then this eliminates add-on filters (any you may be using) are causing the problem.

cheers
