DSLR Magazine says the 5D II will be 21mp

Once you hit the 10 MP and above, there is no longer reason to buy lower grade lenses, L lenses gives you the image quality, wide open and not having to stopped down to F5.6 or even F8 before image quality becomes acceptable. So stop buying EF-S and non L lenses and you will be good to go from now on.
Even some L lenses are a bit long in the tooth.

Replacing core primes and zooms with higher resolution lenses more suitable for the newer 50-65MP FF sensors that are coming over the next few years should already be in Canon's plan. This will include the 24L, 35L, 16-35L (done) and 100-400L, 200 L (done) and over time several of the longer Ls.

And not to mention the rumored 24-70L MKII...

Cheaper grade of canon glass was designed in the days of cheap film cameras. When DSLR come about, its high cost precludes its acceptance in all but the wealthy hobbyist and professionals that could writeoff the cost as a business expense. Now sensors are increasing in quality and looks like a 40MP FF 1Ds Mk4 or Mk 5 would trump even a PhaseOne or Leaf Aptus digital back for a fraction of the cost. That's misleading, I have used great EF-S and non Ls and lousy Ls. Just because it is an L doesn't mean it is automatically good.

I'm happy with 12.8MP. Won't need such a huge resolution. For what? Waste my hard disk space only.

About time they replaced the 24-70L, that lens is one of the more disappointing lenses I have used. Although it can shoot at f2.8, sharpness is just not there until you stop down to about f5.6.

Sorry I would tend to disagree with your last comment. Not all L lenses are made equal. Some are truly sharp from edge to edge for e.g the L portrait primes or telephoto primes but some are downright horrible (speaking of wide open performance here). Clear cut examples include the 16-35 f2.8L MkI, and some samples of 24-70 f2.8L and 24-105 f4L too perform poorly. Canon definitely needs to improve in this area, coz the higher resolution of the sensor would show up the flaws of such lenses more, esp. at the corners.

I am sure you'll know that EF-S is meant for APS-C size sensor so the design is optimized for such smaller areas....however some of the EF-S lenses perform almost similar to L grade lenses e.g the 17-55 f2.8 IS. Non L lenses like the 100mm Macro and 85mm f1.8 are still stellar performers even on a FF sensor.

The bottomline is: not all L lenses are designed similarly or give similar levels of optical perfomance.

Although I would welcome the MKII, I really dread how much weight Canon is going to put on this lens with the addition of IS

It will be interesting if 5D II will have a ASP-C crop function on this FF camera. Not sure if it is possible optically but digitally it should be doable...

Well sad to say that EF-S lenses have a longer butt so even if you manage to mount it on the 5d replacement, the mirror will likely hit it.... unless the 5d II uses a smaller mirror but if that is the case % viewfinder coverage will suffer and not likely to be acceptable to most buyers.

Destined Evalution?

Destined Evalution?
Where did you see "Destined Evalution"? I saw "Destined Evolution". I actually hope Canon will put "Destined Revolution" But I guess not much chance. :D

....my guess 16mp with 50D functions. :)

From the shadowy look, it seems like a FF camera and I think there's not in-built flash unit. Don't tell me it's a ....

Yah you are right, the next FF...:bsmilie:

Mine guess: 21MP, 5fps, 9pt AF sensor, 50D functions...in other words its like a FF 50D.

Prolly no video function and pop up flash. (from the shape of the pentaprism)

Let's bring out the chips and start playing SHOWHAND! :bsmilie:

SHOW HAND!!!!
fully weather sealed.

Hmm.. Anyone remember the 20Da? The astrophototgraphy version?

Maybe this is 5Da =x

Have to agreed with you...... can't imagine how long it will take to process 1 raw pics

Now the processors are faster.
