I think its already well in the line. I won't be surprised with a APS-H 1DMkIV at 50Mp, sRAW at 25Mp and sRAW2 12.5Mp with 'virtually noiseless' ISO 12,800 using sRAW2 come Feb '09. :bigeyes:

I'm waiting for my EF-M 24-105 f/4L IS

EF-S for short backfocus (APS-C compatible)

so

EF-M for medium format lor

If they build it something like the Pentax 645, that would be great. I love the ergonomics of the P645, and to think that was a camera launched in '84.


Edit: the EF-M should really be 38-160 to achieve a similar field of view to a 24-105 on full frame 35mm.

i thought there's the rumor going all the way, that they are going to release 2 new cameras in photokina, if that is really true, (which i think it is, rumors is part of the marketting strategy) 5Dmk2 might be really 21mp as the next secret camera might be a 1DsMkiV or something. However these cameras are not within my small little pocket :bsmilie: just hope 5D will drop to near 2k in SG, and i can grab it before it goes off production!

after the 50D sensor, i think just have abit more faith in canon. they have just done what the rest can't achieve. sometimes its a matter of they want or not. look at everyone adopting the cmos now. those who used ccd are all eating their words now. :bsmilie::bsmilie::bsmilie:

True all have gradually upgraded from CCD to CMOS. But gapless microlens is also used in D700/ D3 as well (both using CMOS). Am I right?

We'll see what technologies they implement. Should be interesting.

On a different note, all this talk about increasing pixel count surely calls for a re-design of some key lenses. For 50 MP FF, Canon needs a new ultrawide (14-24 f/2.8 type) and a new 24-70 (probably with IS). The current 17-40 f/4L and 24-105 f/4L IS ain't gonna cut it. Hopefully, Zeiss can come to the rescue...

PS: I don't expect the 5D replacement to be cheap. But we'll see..

I think Canon has always lusted after the MF market. They can attack MF indirectly with competitive resolution from 35mm sensors, something which they had already done with 1DsX bodies.

It is no surprise if they go with bigger MF sensors, or even "cropped" MF sensors, as the profit margin is huge.

5D2 specs can also be increased without challenging the 1Dss but will challenge D700/D3 etc . Too bad our 1k post long 5D2 spec thread was prematurely ended before the 5D2release. Now we have to start our speculations all over again.

Just came back from Bangkok, 5d already taken off the shelf ! Paid higher prices for the 3 sets i bought. Wait further and you can only get a 2nd hand 5D.
