hi! thought i ask the collective wisdom here. i wanted to try out a M8 + lens over this long weekend holiday cos i am deciding bet a leica or a x100. but the only place i know that rents out a M8 (Camera Rental) has rented out their only set for the entire week.

does anyone know of any rental place that might not be in CS that does rentals? most places i know only rents out DSLRs. :embrass:

I'm afraid that might be the only place that rents M8... :\

Might want to borrow from friends if you can :/

hahahahahaha.... not many among my frens use RF... let alone a digital RF like leica! :bsmilie:

(or mebbe i am in the wrong circle...) ;p

Three days is a tad too short; so you'll have to find a friend to loan it or something.

my original intention was to loan out from CRC for 1 week. but was beaten to the punch. haiz... looks like i have to try again next time.

Meanwhile you can refer to online resources to help you make the choice; also, you can visit some used-camera shops to see if they've got an M8 on their shelves and maybe you can touch it a little.

Both cameras are good, and have their own good and bad traits.

One thing that can be easily deduced is that the M8 is optically superior, because you can use impeccable Leica lenses on a 1.3x sensor with no anti-aliasing filter.

I've used the M8 extensively in the past, but haven't tried out the X100, and thus not qualified to give my own personal hands-on perspective of the cameras.

May i suggest my opinion. You might want to consider the Sony Nex 7 coming out later this year. Its almost the same price as the X100 but better still, you can use Leica glasses with an external mount. Manual focusing on the Nex is by using the 'peeking' mode. Theres indications in the viewfinder/screen where on your subject is in focus. Imo, this is a great technology that Sony come up with. (I'm in no affiliation with Sony. The only product I have with Sony is the PS2)

Then again, if you wanna have a true feel of RF then M8 is the way to go. 

You might want to buy a used one at a reasonable price and then sell it off cheaper after using for a week. :)

Sometimes you might even make a small profit! :bsmilie:

If you think you are with the "wrong circle", hang around with the RF SG folks! :)

the only place i remember is CRC.. but since u said its out already. guess the only way is to buy a set with a decent summicron lens i guess. and sell it off once ur done..

hahaha... chiif, i am looking for a keeper. its down to a m8 or x100. not going to buy & try. which is why i amhoping to rent the m8. 

Had you been base in Perth i would have gladly lend you mine and escort you to shoot! Personally i feel any M > X100 (price wise as well!)

Both are 2 different beasts. I'm not sure even with rental u can get a conclusion . Buy both and then sell one later is good option hehe
