Do you think this is a fair photography package??

This is an abstract from photography package offered to a childcare chain in Sgp for non-K2 Classes:

Option A - Please select at least 1 item from the STANDARD PACKAGE:

A3. 1 x Graduation Concert DVD + 1 x Super 8R Class Photo with stand + 1 x 6R Class Photo @ $35.90
A4. 1 x Super 8R Class Photo with stand + 1 x 6R Class Photo @ $22.50

Option B - Please select any additional packages that you wish to purchase:
B1. 1 x 8R photo with wooden frame of the Portrait of Child
B2. etc......

Parents whom want to have a copy of their child's photo HAVE to select 1 item from the standard package before they can purchase the child's individual photo!! And the standard package includes 2 class photos! Who would need 2 class photos? Isn't this forcing the parents to spend more before they can have 1 copy of their child's individual photo??

What do you think?

I paid $18 for my son K2 graduation, think comes with one 8R group/class photo and one not sure 6R/8R individual (not photo frame), I think is ok :D

Oops...missed out the price for the individual photo under Option B. It's another $22.50....

Hi kwttan, thks for your feedback. If it's just $22.50 for the individual photo with frame...I wouldn't mind but parents need to select 1 item from package A before they can buy the individual photo. This makes the minimum cost to be $45.00!!

At least your $18 includes the individual photo and class/group photo... :(

moving this thread to Photo Biz sub-section where you might be better advised

Well, you always have the option of NOT buying anything at all.

Just shoot your own. Most cost effective that way. ;)

Well, the school allows it.

Anyway, this is how the operator works, and you can choose not to buy. If you want advise, then i will say it is not that expensive.

Well...since my child is not in the k2 graduating class, I can still opt not to buy fm them. But I hope the school would not use them again next yr if they do not show any sincerity in reviewing the package.

Apparently, the schools are getting complaints fm parents and have requested the photographer to review their packages but they came back saying they can only offer to change one of the class photo to an informal class photo. This doesn't change anything as it is still 2 class photos before u can buy the individual photo. Is it that difficult to change one class photo to individual photo?

it is not difficult to change, but it's not worth for the photographer to change.
He clicked once for the class photo which everyone will have to buy. and he clicked once for the individual photo which only one will buy.

hello Racoon, how are long you? you kids so big liao har?

anyway, usually two class group photos, one is the formal type, one is the fun type, the fun type means the children are making funny faces for the group photos.
the class group photo is the basic package, since everyone is in it.

and the for individuals photos, that is the additional order, usually the photographer don't shoot individuals UNLESS there is a confirmed order, since not all parents may want it.

hope this help.

This is not photo biz - ie to discuss the biz of photography not a consumer corner for consumer to ask whether this price is ok.

Thread relocate back to consumer corner.

hi catchlights! How r u? long time never catch up Liao! Ya..my boy in K1 already..time flies.

Thks for your feedback. Well..the photographer has planned to take individual pics for all children regardless of whether they r ordering in the first place. It was stated in their order form and the deadline for order is after the photoshoot. It was the same arrangement for the past two years with the previous photographer so...am surprised to learn that the actual practice may be different. honestly, if they had just bundled in the individual photo and cragged accordingly, no one would mind cos at least they had the initiative to add in frames etc.

We tried asking the photographer what was the basis for bundling 2 class photos and they couldn't answer and that just caused more frustration.

think as parent or think as the service provider :bsmilie:

Hi Jopel, how r u too? Well, in this case...PARENT!!! ;) Knowing how photos r taken just increased the frustration lor.

Agree, furthermore if they are engaging trainee photographer, not professionals. Can tell on how they manage the group of kids.

Btw, the $ not only goes to the photographer, but the school too!

Ahya Bro...it's only once a lifetime thingy. Just pay up and get done with. If not maybe later regret didn't order when you see everyone else had fond memories. I had my black & white photos for over 80 years already and still felt like yesterday.

I dunno wat was the school's criteria for selecting this photographer over the previous one which has a proper registered studio. I can't even find the company name (which we supposed to indicate on cheque payment) on the web!! He may be a good photographer but if he wants to get a slice of pie from the childcare / kindergarten market, he should learn to package his products from a parent's point of view. Afterall, his customer is the parent!?!?

So sian...told my boy the most no photos for him this year. A few other parents I spoke to also don't want to order the pics anymore.

We've been ordering it for the past 2 years. Wanted to buy again this year so that we can see my boy's changes over the years but, am not prepared to be held hostage by this photographer. To me, he played on the love parents have for their kids to package his products as such. If the previous studio can do it, why can't he? The school management also needs to answer for not spotting this earlier. Mistakes happen...yes...just hope both parties will do something to rectify it.
