Bruggink, you got it right. A real pain in the a%& place to get to. Was in Athens, wanted to rent a car they won't rent you one unless you have an international driving licence. So had to take the train, change train at some reallu ulu place, nothing in English. When we arrived we were told next day strike no train. So had to look for bus station to take bus back. Same thing again on the way home, change bus..........
But it was worth it. i would go again next time more prepared.

I have a little story to share about the experience I had in Nikko. I reached Nikko via a train ride from Tokyo. The building with the green rooftop is the train station and I stayed at a nearby hotel. In fact, the picture was shot at the hotel window. After checking in my hotel room, to my horror, I realized my camera backpack wasn't with me! I had my D200, Nikon 24-70, 35mm prime, Tokie 12-24mm and some accessories all kept in the backpack. Straightaway, I ran to the train station, thinking I must have left it on the train! On my way to the station, I'm already mentally prepared for the worst. Though I still had a Panasonic Lumix TZ7 with me, my heart still hurt with the thought of losing all the photos in the D200. When I reached the train station, I did not see any train on the platforms. The train that I took must had left Nikko. Immediately I rushed to the customer service counter to report my loss. One of the staff took out a form and asked me to describe how my camera backpack looked like. After taking down the description, the staff disappeared into the office room. A few minutes later, the staff returned and I saw my backpack in his hands! He told me that one of the cleaners found my camera backpack in the train and brought it to the train office.
I wouldn't say the incident had changed my opinion on the Japanese people since I have already knew they are very well-mannered and organized people. It merely brought that belief to new height. Just before my Japan trip, i was reading a travel guide and it says that if a person is to lose something in Japan, there is a higher chance of finding back the loss item as compared to other countries. It's just so true.

The Nikko Station started its operation in 1890. This is the oldest wooden building in the operation area of JR East. The JR Nikko Station is well known as the noted building that the Romanesque atmosphere of Meiji period remains.
How can one not visit the majestic Tōshō-gū when in Nikko. Nikkō Tōshō-gū (日光東照宮?) is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is dedicated to Tokugawa Ieyasu, the founder of the Tokugawa shogunate. Initially built in 1617, during the Edo period, while Ieyasu's son Hidetada was shogun, it was enlarged during the time of the third shogun, Iemitsu. Ieyasu is enshrined here, and his remains are entombed here.

You are right. This is one of very few Tibetan Buddhist Temple in Malaysia. During Wesak day, there is a thangka rollout and monk performing mask dancing.
