wah birding :o
600 w 1.7x telecon on a DX sounds very extreme.
i think it is more of the norm... I have seen a few setup that is similar.. either 500mm or 600mm + telecon + DX...
I look through one at SBWR... it is very sweet.. one bird in the frame...

Yes, I'd agree that for birding, nothing is ever enough! 600 x 1.7 x 1.5 means you can be a silent sniper. The birds probably never even notice your presence. If they do, they probably think you're out of reach to mean any harm to them. And that's probably the gist of the idea... However, I don't know if you can detect a bird that far (if they are camouflaged among the trees and bushes) hence begs me to ask this... Do you own a Nikkor Field Scope?

I have seen those field scope and what you can so when you attached a PnS on the end.. :) ... If you go SWBR or Botanic Gardens.. you will see quite a number of photographers with the 600 x 1.7 x 1.5 setup ... I always wonder who so many rich people around.. who have the time and can spend on their hobby like this :)

After seeing the number of supercars in Singapore swell over the years, I don't think there is an affordability problem when it comes to expensive cameras and lenses :)

Akerue.. I think I say your elder bro the other day (if you have one).. at Neo Tiew Lane 2.. 600mm, tele conv 1.7, D300/D700.. Gitzo+wimberley head.. ... very, very macho la... carry whole setup and walk towards horizon... (ok.. towards mangrove swamp)...

Anyway, there is a brand new d7k for sale. $100 cheaper than street pricing. But have to confirm today. If not will be released to dealers. How want or not?
